We've had 7 years to make the playoffs.

They've had 20+ to win a Cup.

This is impressive but he's played 12 minutes of uncontested shinny hockey against a shellshocked Rangers team.
What makes you say that? He was always regarded as a blue chip prospect who played very well in the Czech pro league at a very young age. He can skate well for a big kid and has incredible hands. He was one of the Calder favorites going into this season so i highly doubt that he'll disappear into obscurity.

Unlike the Oilers youngsters, he's surrounded by a great veteran group so he'll develop the proper way. It's what great organizations like the Sharks do, they don't need #1 overalls to groom great young players. I'm jealous.

Isn't Hertl playing with Thornton? Kinda kills your argument.

Actually, that strengthens my point that teams like the Sharks bring up these young players into environments with great veteran support so that their transition to the NHL is a smoother one. Couture also benefitted from this big time.

Yes, but the main engine of that great vet core is a 1st overall. I am sure once Hall, RNH and Yakupov are vets they will be able to help support young player in their transition to the NHL as well.

If we had a 1st overall vet to help usher our kids into the league, I am sure it would have gone smoother than it has.

It's also relevant to include Marleau as he is 2nd overall pick.

There is some condolence in the fact that Thornton had issues throughout his first few years in the league, but still became an elite player. It just goes to show, a 1st overall doesn't have to have destroy the league early in their career like an Ovechkin, Crosby, or Stamkos to develop into one of the leagues best players.

Dear Hall,

please watch Hertl's goal

if you want to go between the legs in the future, you have to put the puck upstairs

It's hard enough for him to not chip a perfect pass to an opposing player in our own zone to be worrying about that right now.

He lacks a lot of technical skills, including the ability to do saucer passes properly.

Monahan another high-IQ play that results in a goal for himself vs the Habs.

Kid is an absolute stud - don't see how CGY can send him down this season without losing 20-30% of the fans in the stands.

It really is unfortunate Monahan went to CGY, he's gonna be a great player.

I think CGY will keep him up.

Despite the obvious discrepancy in overall play the Flames have a lot of guys playing loosey goosey atm and when they get chances they're executing. That trend probably won't continue past ten games.

I stated before the season started in a thread on the mains Calgary will not be near as bad as people think this year , but will go through a few bad winless streaks , They will finish with around 80-82 pts imo.

It's a bit disheartening watching STL and CHI and realizing how far EDM must come before they're close to that level.

Their luck will run out, especially over 82 games. You can't be routinely outshot/out chanced, give up multi-goal leads, get exceptional goaltending and expect to win more than you lose.

I'm not even saying that as a rival, it's all too familiar.

If you can't score on Joey MacDonald you probably don't deserve anything.

That's because of Edmonton's terrible coaching and poor player development.
