i took Clarke. I just like that style of player. Good poll, very, very close - plus, this is how i design my own all time hierarchy - 7 game series for all the marbles, longevity and gathered points aside, WHO DO YOU WANT?

I'd nearly take Sakic here, because he could handle much of what Clarke does, but with his stick, and clean.... plus, this guy is a Grade A sniper.

Note: I also wonder how Foppa would fare if he was added to this poll?
I was thinking the same thing, I might even take Forsberg over Sakic.

I was all set to complain that this thread is full of historical revisionism and everyone is remembering Crosby's bad series and forgetting Clarke's or Sakic's flops.

But.

Thinking back on it, for all the playoff hockey Joe Sakic played over the years, he probably had, what, two poor series his entire life? 1998 against Edmonton and 2000 against the Stars—and I'm pretty sure he was injured all through that 2000 run. His consistency was really astonishing.

I would. He would win this poll for me.

Clarke didn't lead his team in playoff scoring either year they won the Cup.
My go-to answer here was going to be Clarke, but you've given me something to think about. I'll have to look a little more closely it appears. But that's a good thing

I think Crosby's the best player, so I'll pick him.

I think Joe would be the most reliable of the three in a Game 7 scenario. Throughout his career he seemed to step up in key situations and score when the team needed him most.

In Game 7 of the 1996 Stanley Cup Quarterfinals with the Avalanche on the brink of elimination, Trevor Linden scored a hat trick for the Canucks, but Sakic matched it with three goals of his own to win it in overtime. That was the franchise's first series victory in eight years and the first for that specific group of players. They would win their first Stanley Cup three rounds later.

If not for Sakic's heroics, there might have been some question marks entering the following season.

Not to take anything away from Sakic, but that was game 5 of a series the Avs won in 6 games. Yes, if they lost that game, they could have been in serious trouble, but it isn’t quite as dramatic as you say.

Can anyone imagine someone scoring a hat trick like that today? Those goals were incredibly soft, as good a shooter as Sakic was.
