I'd like to see Guy Boucher, if he doesn't get an NHL gig. He had great success with Hamilton. Paul Maurice would also be a good choice as well if Eakins doesn't bring him on board in Edmonton. Glen Gulutzan would be another option. MLSE has the resources to hire a name guy. The Marlies should always have one of the premier coaches in the AHL.
I'd also pass on Gilmour (as much as it kills me to deny Dougie any position on the Leafs).
Steve Spott would be fantastic.
Keith Allain would be an extremely smart and "under the radar" pick, he just won the frozen four and has had some olympic and nhl experience, would be a great pick considering the amount of young prospects on the team.
Keith Allain would be an outstanding candidate. Smart. Experienced coach at almost every level. Impressive results. Good character. Solid suggestion, IronSing!*

That is me whenever someone mentions Gilmour as a coach. He was a pretty bad coach in junior, the ultimate player development league and the place where he could command instant respect from players just by his name and accolades alone. If he was bad there, what makes you think he'll be any better at the pro level? At least Hunter and Roy had success at the junior level. Dougie is more of a GM type anyways.
if he makes more money in the OHL than any other coach in the NHL and the leafs want him, you don't think the Leafs would offer a bit more?
As much as I would like to see the Leafs use their financial muscle to get a star coach like Hunter, I don't think we need to. If I'm not mistaken, Hunter is at least a 50 percent owner of the Knights, probably the most valuable franchise in the OHL. He's probably making upwards of 5mm just from that team. AV just got 2mm a year to coach the Rangers. If I was Hunter, it would be a no brainer to stay where I'm at.
Plus, you would think if he really wanted to coach at the pro level there would be a job for him in the NHL- assuming he's not just thinking about the money. I just don't see a fit here, but of course this is all my opinion.
