Nelson Donovan and Strome is my guess (I think there's a chance Nino makes it too if he is not traded but he is not a rookie)... and I wouldn't be surprised to see Lee and other call ups by year end.. Last year we had a ton of inexperienced players (Strait, Hickey, Mcdonald, Cizikas, Ullstrom all with none or limited NHL experience) and they were upgrades over the dead weight we had the year before. I don't think that I am as worried about rookies as many others are. While we may take more strides this year, I don't think we will make serious noise until 2014-15, so I am happy if these guys get experience now if ready.
Opening night I think it's going to be Donovan and Nelson think Strome might start off in AHL for a little bit then brought up.
My thoughts exactly. I think Strome might get called up. However, I don't see Snow rushing the fact. We are already going to be getting younger by injecting Nelson and Donovan into the lineup. Nino, whom I fully believe will make the roster as well is another young addition.
However, in the same regard, I would not at all be surprised if Strome makes the team and Nino starts the season in the minors (which would make three rookies)
I think it will be Donovan, Nelson and Nino. I think Strome will impress but they'll send him down for part of the Fall. Having more than 2 rookie Fwds (counting Nino as a rookie for these purposes) will be a bit too much, IMO.
3 - Nelson, Donovan, and Nino as regulars. Nino may not technically be a rookie, but if you think the season of total fail he experienced a year and a half ago makes him a vet, then I don't know what to say.
If Nino is traded, I expect Strome up in spot duty in the second half.
Went with 2 - Nelson and Donovan. Don't consider Nino a rookie cause of the burned ELC. Also hope Strome starts in the AHL. Get acclimated there and then come up (unless he's absolutely lighting it up there)
I really think Strome is ready, and will prove so during training camp. 4 full seasons in juniors, also I feel he is an elite talent. Not quite like Tavares, but he's closer to elite than say Nino or the Ranger's Kreider, both of whom got plenty of AHL time last year. He alone will decide where he starts the 2013-14 season. I think Nelson is our 3rd line center to start the season, IF we don't sign a top line winger to replace Boyes, I think Strome slips into that slot, and produces with JT. Nino of course can find himself on the 3rd line with Nelson and Grabner. Second line of Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo.
Thank you good sir. You should really now start the poll again since a lot of those votes I guarantee would go towards "too many" making the point that the Isles front office relies too much on answers from their youth as opposed to mixing in legit NHL veterans via FA or trade.
I doubt we could be as lucky this year with injuries as last year. I think Strome, Nino, Nelson, Lee, Donovan and Mayfield will all see some time on the Isle this year. I hope I'm wrong and don't need them all.
