40 pick Mock

Kind of got sick of the write ups so stopped at Buffalo's pick.

1. Colorado Avalanche - D, Seth Jones
I can't imagine any scenario where Colorado passes on Jones unless someone blows them away with a trade. New coach Patrick Roy might influence a bigger debate on the two Quebec League prospects but they can't miss out on this fairy tail situation. Defense is Colorado's biggest need, Jones is from Denver and he has known Sakic since he was a child.
Other option - C, Nathan MacKinnon

2. Florida Panthers - C, Nathan MacKinnon
I think Florida would have taken MacKinnon had they won the lottery anyways. The memorial cup performance from MacKinnon solidified this choice. MacKinnon is already familiar with Huberdeau and they will form an amazing duo for years to come.
Other option - LW, Jonathan Drouin

3. Tampa Bay Lightning - LW, Jonathan Drouin
Drouin joins his teammate in the state of Florida. There is no way Tampa Bay should be passing on this talent. St.Louis will be retiring in the next few years, while Drouin will be emerging as his replacement. Drouin and Stamkos along with Huberdeau and MacKinnon should create quite the rivalry between Florida and Tampa Bay in the future.
Other option - RW, Valeri Nichushkin

4. Nashville Predators - C, Aleksander Barkov
Nashville has never had an elite center aside from Peter Forsberg for a brief playoff run. Barkov fits the style of play in Nashville. He is big, hard working, and defensively responsible to go along with his high offensive potential.
Other option - C, Elias Lindholm

5. Carolina Hurricanes - RW, Valeri Nichushkin
I think the Canes will move down and take a defenseman, but if they stay in this position they can't pass up on Nichushkin. He says he is coming over next year and Carolina will have a spot available for him in the top 6. With E. Staal, J. Staal, Semin, Tlusty, Skinner and now Nichushkin.. wow.
Other option - D, Darnell Nurse

6. Calgary Flames - C, Elias Lindholm
Calgary has a choice between two centers here which is just fine for them. Center is the biggest need in that organization and they will take the one with better #1 center potential. Monahan might be the safer pick, but Lindholm is more creative and is more likely to thrive in that role.
Other option - C, Sean Monahan

7. Edmonton Oilers - C, Sean Monahan
Edmonton's situation is the exact opposite to Calgary. With Nugent-Hopkins already there as the #1 center, and a need for size, Monahan is close to perfect for them. He brings the faceoffs, size, and reliability that Gagner doesn't provide in the #2 role. If Monahan's offense does not translate it won't be near as crucial as it would be to Calgary.
Other option - C, Bo Horvat

8. Buffalo Sabres - D, Rasmus Ristolainen
Buffalo is probably devastated Monahan and Lindholm were taken just before them but they're pleased to grab Ristolainen. Defense is a need in Buffalo's prospect pool. Ristolainen is big, physical and a right hand shot which the Sabres lack.
Other option - D, Darnell Nurse

9. New Jersey Devils - LW, Hunter Shinkaruk
Other option - C, Max Domi

10. Dallas Stars - C, Bo Horvat
Other option - C, Alexander Wennberg

11. Philadelphia Flyers - D, Darnell Nurse
Other option - D, Josh Morrissey

12. Phoenix Coyotes - C, Curtis Lazar
Other option - C, Max Domi

13. Winnipeg Jets - C, Max Domi
Other option - C, Alexander Wennberg

14. Columbus Blue Jackets - C, Alexander Wennberg
Other option - LW, Anthony Mantha

15. New York Islanders - D, Nikita Zadorov
Other option - D, Ryan Pulock

16. Buffalo Sabres - D, Ryan Pulock
Other option - LW, Anthony Mantha

17. Ottawa Senators - LW, Anthony Mantha
Other option - LW, Morgan Klimchuk

18. Detroit Red Wings - D, Shea Theodore
Other option - LW, Andre Burakovsky

19. Columbus Blue Jackets - LW, Morgan Klimchuk
Other option - RW, Valentin Zykov

20. San Jose Sharks - RW, Valentin Zykov
Other option - RW, Adam Erne

21. Toronto Maple Leafs - C, Frederick Gauthier
Other option - LW, Kerby Rychel

22. Calgary Flames - D, Josh Morrissey
Other option - D, Samuel Morin

23. Washington Capitals - LW, Andre Burakovsky
Other option - RW, Adam Erne

24. Vancouver Canucks - RW, Adam Erne
Other option - LW, Kerby Rychel

25. Montreal Canadiens - LW, JT Compher
Other option - RW, Michael McCarron

26. Anaheim Ducks - LW, Kerby Rychel
Other option - C, Nicolas Petan

27. Columbus Blue Jackets - D, Samuel Morin
Other option - D, Mirco Mueller

28. Calgary Flames - RW, Ryan Hartman
Other option - RW, Michael McCarron

29. Dallas Stars - D, Mirco Mueller
Other option - D, Madison Bowey

30. Chicago Blackhawks - C, Nicolas Petan
Other option - G, Zach Fucale

------

31. Florida Panthers - D, Robert Hagg
Other option - D, Madison Bowey

32. Colorado Avalanche - RW, Michael McCarron
Other option - RW, Justin Bailey

33. Tampa Bay Lightning - D, Ian McCoshen
Other option - D, Madison Bowey

34. Montreal Canadiens - D, Madison Bowey
Other option - D, Chris Bigras

35. Carolina Hurricanes - RW, Justin Bailey

i get the feeling a lot of teams like McCarron's potential and incredible size....so much so that i could see a team like Chicago easily taking him in the 1st round at #30.

Like it for NJ but I'd take De La Rose instead of Fucale

I can understand not wanting Fucale at 9, but at 39 take him and run

1 scout on the habs board thinks McCarron won't even be there at 25.

Compher and Bowey? Giddy up, I'm good. Rychel would also be a great option in the first round, for the Habs.

I would take Fucale at 28 before Hartman for Calgary. At 22 I don't want him but at 28 he could be a huge steal. I also would think hard about picking McCarron before Hartman.

^i have had the Flames before in a mock draft, and what i felt the team needed to address was someone to replace Kipper, so i drafted Fucale at #28, after taking i think it was Lindholm and Zadorov, also addressing the need for a top d-man and top forward. i'm hoping the Flames do something similar in the upcoming draft in 2 weeks. but if they don't take Fucale, there could still be some excellent goalie options for the Flames next pick in the early 3rd round.

Not sure the Canes pass on Fucale or Santini if he's there at #35, but that's a pretty good draft from a Canes perspective.

What? No. Compher or Rychel would be ideal. I'm not sold on McCarron, too many negative reports on him. If he was available at the 36th pick, then maybe they'd consider him.

McCarron is a no draft for me at #25. Reminds me too much of Tyler Biggs or even Turner Stevenson. I want more skill and potential in a 1st round pick. I'm not a scout, so what do I know?
