How would Esa Tikkanen do playing today?

How do you think Tikkanen would do, if he played today?

Probably we all remember/know what were Esa's strengths. He was energetic, mouth running, physical player who actually had some real hockey skills. He was a good for 2nd line scorer, good for any line as a defensive player.

Is there a player today who reminds you of Tikkanen or has the time passed on players like him?

Marchand is a mini Tikkanen with lesser defencive game.
Esa was actually a really skilled player. The knee injury as a teen took away some of his speed and agility for the rest of his career.
He was still pretty fast but without the injury and alcoholism he might have been a real superstar.
Still a very memorable player.

Esa could play a two way game and had good wheels. He would be fine in the current NHL

Agree with both posters above me. He had talent and was a real agitator. He could score and play some pretty decent defence. I'm sure he'd be fine in today's NHL.

I'm not big on the whole idea of asking how a player would do in today's game despite the fact that he was a very good player just 20 years ago. But either way, Tik would do what he did just as well. Hard to say if he wins all those Cups since he was fortunate to be on the Oilers but he was a playoff hero and someone mentioned Brad Marchand and we all know how he performs when the chips are down. Tik I think was a better player than him, and would be better.
