To be honest, he's pitching like a #5 lately. His ERA is like 7.00 in his last 5-6 starts. Last night, he's going against one of the weakest hitting teams, a lineup with lefties, walks the #8 and #9 hitters and throws a meatball on an 0-2 count to Ibanez straight down the middle. 100 pitches in 5 innings.

Cheringtton has to shore up the bullpen quick. They were hitting shots after Lester was gone and count em, 11 runs. Uehara and Tazawa will be if not already worn down. To get something you have to give up something.

Major League Baseball is expected to suspend Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez, and as many as 20 players connected to the Biogenesis clinic sometime after next week's All-Star break, several sources told T.J. Quinn and Mike Fish of ESPN.com. Commissioner Bud Selig's office is considering 100-game bans for Braun and Rodriguez, the punishment for a second offense, despite neither player receiving a previous suspension for violating MLB drug rules.

Suspensions appear to be a certainty for both players and the only issue in question is the length of time that they'll be sidelined. One source said that the league's arguement would be that they, and possibly other players, committed multiple offenses by receiving PEDs from Tony Bosch's clinic and lying about it.

But yeah, I'll take great joy in seeing Braun and his camp try to defend his integrity yet again.

EDIT: Just saw an update:

Whatever. His time's coming.

the ibanez signing was a great one for zduriencik.

if only he had the rest of the offense to go with it. i still think he's gone after this season.

great read with saltalamacchia.

talks a lot of his thinking during games and why he does a lot of the things he does.

General Z or Ibanez?

Because Ibanez is at the age where he is lucky if he wakes up the next morning, let alone makes it to the next year.

EDIT: Thanks for the Salty article. Good stuff.

Yeah, he's not long for Seattle unless some of the young guys keep coming up and making a splash. Nick Franklin looks amazing so far. He better hope Walker, Zunino, and Hultzen improve their teams outlook over the next couple of months or he's sheets.

i mean, i get what he's done.

but a lot of guys have gone there and gotten worse. justin smoak is a colossal bust, ackley might end up dfa after the season and they really don't have much of an offense besides ibanez defying time and kyle seager playing over his head. he's built the team around pitching and defense and has more pitching coming but it might be too late.

a lot of people would have fired him after the lueke debacle.

My best friend was an intern for the Cotuit Kettleers when Smoak was there (I got a job with them the year after and have thus worked with more recent guys...as of now Justin Grimm and Josh Spence are the two that have made the show...hopefully Deven Marrero eventually).

Anyways, he told me Smoak was the best hitter he had ever seen. I'm shocked he busted as hard as he did. Ackley was always kind of meh to me in that he didn't really ever have any power. UNC seems to produce those polished guys that are sketchy but get picked high- Colin Moran is another example of that.

That Delabar for Thames trade was dumb then and dumber now. Other than that, I really like what he's done with the pitching in that park. He took a couple of homer prone guys and threw them in the rotation to decent results. Got some young arms too. It's a shame he won't get to see them develop fully. I don't think he is all that bad of a GM.

Also, what do you guys think of Salty this year?

Still K's a lot, but I think his approach up there is night and day from last year. He has been hitting a lot of doubles, which was somewhat of a rarity for him in his earlier days.

i don't think he's that bad but i also don't think he's that good either.

i would have expected him to invest in pitching reclamation projects to wait for his pitchers to develop, let them pitch in the cavernous safeco field with a great defense behind them, sign a bunch of contact hitters and just go to town.

instead, he seemed to try to build a team to win now. whether that was from ownership or not, i'm not sure.

i think they're a bit kinder there than i've seen mariner fans be to him in the past.

saltalamacchia has been really good this year.

he'll probably decline a bit, what with the .401 babip and all, but he's hitting more line-drives this year which is always a good thing.

For sure. It seems like he tried to add some pop, which probably wasn't the way to go as you indicated. I like the Harang idea and the Bonderman idea (before he was DFA'd this week that is).

Iglesias is so good he is even reaching when he K's

How did Farrell not realize he couldn't pull him there without throwing a pitch?

Wake the **** up. I hate when managers get **** like that wrong.

that was kind of embarrassing.

the video game trick of just throwing over until your relief pitcher is ready doesn't work in real life.

then again, there's the mvp 05 trick where if you're losing bad enough, just throw at two straight hitters and you'll get thrown out and have a relief pitcher come in at 100%.
