"one cup of coffee, then I'll go..."
Cool that he got his cup of coffee with his hometown team, I wish him well. But I won't be missing him, actually glad that a spot opens up in WBS that he would've taken had he re-signed.

Guess he was tired of being an AHL-NHL tweener. He'll probably be at least a full-time starter. Even if it is in Khabarovsk...

Good for him. It'll be (mildly) interesting to see what veteran d-man they bring in to fill Reese's role.

When he was signed last year, Madden went on about how he was going to be a fixture on the NHL roster. Just awful.

He always seemed like a nice guy when he was with the Isles. Good luck to him!

Further proof Madden doesn't know jack ****. Mr. Spittle Bag finds the most dramatic or controversial thing to say, and says it. The end. If Malkin had not agreed to a deal, he'd be talking about how there's a risk of him leaving for the KHL as he spends the summer in Russia. The guy is a grade-A moron / radio troll. It is amazing to me tht he has a job on Pittsburgh radio. You'd hope there would be enough complaints.... bah, I won't go there.

Lowest common yinzer denominator, sir. That's why Madden is successful. It was true in wrestling (I know, I know...) and even moreso now.

Good luck to Reese. Maybe he'll cross paths with Endicott.

The guy wasn't awful. He's certainly not an NHL calibre player on a playoff team, but he was decent enough as an injury callup playing 10 or 12 minutes a night.

Didn't say he wasn't a viable emergency call up. But a regular on our roster is a whole other ball of wax.

How could this happen? Mark Madden had him as the 5th or 6th best defenseman on the Pens depth chart??

Not surprising after watching him in his call up games. Wasn't impressed.

In a way this is a good move for us as it means we have a D spot available on WBS. Isn't Harrington moving up this year? Or is it someone else?

Yes, Harrington is eligible this year. Pouliot and Maatta will be the season after.

Meh, he wasn't really anything to write home about in WBS.

He also saw way more powerplay time than I would've liked.

Anyone have a realistic hypothetical of how WBS defense will look this coming year?

Signed:
- Samuelsson (3rd year)
- Dumoulin (2nd year)
- McNeill (2nd year)
- Harrington (rookie)
- Ruopp (rookie)
- D'Agostino (rookie)

RFA:
- Grant (would be 5th year)

Quite a bit of talent but not much experience in that mix. Should be a safe bet that Joey Mormina gets re-signed. At age 31 he likely won't find anything better than captaining a competitive AHL team. Add in another veteran or two and WBS will be set. Maybe an old NHL washout like Eaton, but probably a tweener like Reese or maybe they just bring back Merth and/or Wild again.

Guys like this come and go, it is nice to see him find a regular job elsewhere and get more money though. Best of luck to him.

Baby Pens aren't going to suffer too much, losing veteran AHL defensemen.

they need a veteran D and preferably a right-handed one, but:

Dumoulin - Samuelsson
Harrington - XXXX
Mormina - D'Agostino
McNeill, Ruopp

Harrold, Meech, or Gilroy could fill Reese's shoes and then some.
