Sustr to Cuse

Damian Cristodero ‏@LightningTimes
Quote:
Sustr sent to AHL Syracuse.
Erik Erlendsson ‏@erlendssonTBO

Regarding Sustr, he doesn't require waivers, only Dman on roster that doesn't and if Aulie is close, you have to make a roster move

And more interestingly:

There were reports last weekend that Yzerman is trying to move Aulie, so if true and that happens, Sustr probably comes back up #ISaidIf

Rather him get consistent top pairing minutes in the AHL than sit in the pressbox anyways

I figured this would happen. He doesnt require waivers and I personally would rather see him getting top line minutes in cuse to help him develop the rest of this year. Aulie must be close to returning, and when he gets back you can start fielding trades.

This isn't a knock on Sustr and I think he knows that. Hope he starts getting 20+ minutes a night again. hes going to be really good for us real soon.

I know this is sarcasm, but considering Despres might want to get out of The Pens org I am all in on trading either Panik or Connolly for him. Both would need to go through saubres next season and considering Drouin we ain't gonna be able keep all three of Panik Connolly and Purcell.

Depres should be able to replace Salo and going into next season with a roster off:
Hedman-Despres/ Sustr
Carle-Gudas
Barberio-Despres/ Sustr
Brewer-Côte
And Koekkoek as first call up
Incredible inexperienced (again), but would have amazing potential as a Unit and should only get better near the Playoffs

I like this move. It did seem like the NHL schedule was taking it's toll on him. The AHL schedule gives him a chance to catch his breath where they don't play for 4 or 5 day stretches. For the past 3 years in college he'd play Fridays and Saturdays for 33-39 games. This was a big jump for him to 82 games, against men, playing almost every other night.

He can always be called back up if we want to. Plus it's another good addition for Syracuse. He's got a bright future here, so I think this is a good move by Yzerman to keep his development going in a positive way.

Makes sense, hopefully we can ship out Aulie, he isn't needed anymore, would also like to see Barb playing more.

He can always come back after the Olympic break and might.

I said almost a month ago that it was time to send him to Syracuse. He's a bit to raw and needs to minutes in the American League. Great Decision by Yzerman and co.

About time, was expecting this before the season as I didn't expect him to make the team. He did well but Syracuse is better for him and the organization right now.

Despres is a good player but not ideal for us to move Connolly or Panik for. We have Koekkoek who's essentially the same player. Rather wait for something that is a better fit.

Is Sustr eligible to play in AHL during the Olympic break?

No thanks, Sustr for Despres is just lateral.

A rule in the collective bargaining agreement, outlined in a memo to all 30 NHL clubs before this season began, holds that all players, waiver-exempt or not, who play in at least 16 of the last 20 games before the Olympic break cannot be assigned to the AHL during the break.
Yes he can keep playing during the Olympic break. He will only have played in 7 of the last 20 games before the Olympics. There are 10 games left before the break.

Barbs has been playing really well lately, so I'm glad Sustr is getting minutes. Hopefully we can move Aulie soon and get him back with the big club.

Yep, anyone who is waiver exempt can play in the American League during the break. If they've played a certain amount of games like Sustr has then he can't be sent down last minute to Syracuse. Instead he has to be sent down now with still a few weeks to go before the break.

He's starting with Taormina right now. If the plan is to play Sustr on the top pair and give him 20+ minutes, he'll probably be paired with the other big minute eaters which I would guess are Taormina and Korobov.

Sustr played about three shifts and completely left the bench area. If someone knows something, please share.

Zettler's only update on Sustr was he left with a bloody nose. Would be reevaluated tonight/tomorrow.

I have no idea. Hopefully nothing serious

Found this.

Quote:
Defenseman Andrej Sustr, who was sent down by Tampa Bay earlier on Friday, started for Syracuse but left the game in the first period with a nose injury. Zettler said he did not know if Sustr would be available for Saturday's game against visiting Binghamton.

Can't see a nose injury being overly serious. Gotta think he'll be back in the lineup soon. I'm actually kind of excited to see what he can do as "the man" in Syracuse. He's always looked like a potential late-bloomer to me, just because of his physical build, so I think we can afford to take our time with him.

I'm with DFC. It was the right move. I think he'll perhaps be ready to make an impact in the 2015-16 season. We may be able to use him on the third pairing regularly next year.

I have no problems with this. Cote has been really solid and he's better suited to be the 7th defenseman. Sustr needs to play as much as he can to continue his development and it's nice to see he's further in the development than many suspected. I'm sure being in the NHL was extremely valuable experience for him too and he'll only benefit from it. Now he just has to smooth the edges in his play and he'll be a good NHL defenseman.
