@carolynwaldoCTV: @NHL_Sens Captain Daniel Alfredsson expects to have a new contract done with Ottawa either tonight or tomorrow. @ctvottawa #nhl.

Good for Ottawa. Let's put his invaluable leadership to the test and see if they can build off of the second round.

It's in Swedish, but on the clip, he says that he hopes to get it done tonight or tomorrow.

Lets be cereal for a minute. Alfie has pretty much said he'd rather retire than play for another team.

JP Barry knows how to negotiate. People are forgetting that alfie got his last contract by threatening to exercise his buyout. The sens then agreed to a new deal and exercised their buyout on his old contract. This was also, i believe, the first back-diving contract signed under the 2005 CBA.

This is all just JP Barry's song and dance. Everyone knew alfie would end up back in ottawa in the end.

Why is it obvious Alfredsson wants to sign in Ottawa rather than a chance at the cup? Lots of guys at his stage in his career have switched teams to chase a cup but Sens fans (and everyone on HF) make it seem like he'd be a traitor for jumping ship.

If i really felt the need i could dig up a plethora of quotes where Alfie has said that he only wants to win a cup in ottawa, that he has no plans of going anywhere else etc etc

I see he's using leverage from Boston and Detroit to get a better deal out of Ottawa, Yep that makes sense carry on.

You gotta take all that with a grain of salt though, I mean, as a captain of the team and basically the face of the franchise for a decade what is he supposed to say with a microphone in his face?

If Ottawa was consistently missing the playoffs it'd be easier for him to say he'd be willing to waive his NTC, but when they're a bubble team showing any desire to leave would be really unbecoming of him.

Good for the Senators.. it would have been weird to see him play with any other team and I probably would not have liked it. I think most can agree with that.

My guess is that this means Clarkson isn't signing with Ottawa

I dont think the alfie situation is germane to Clarkson. Clarkson would come to fill a spot next to spezza, alfie is tied to turris.
