Pascal Dupuis

I'm just kind of curious what kind of money you guys think that Pascal Dupuis will get? Also if you think he will re-sign with the Penguins.

Just for some information that you may be unaware of:

-34 years old
-97 points in 130 games past two seasons (90 of which were ES)
-Strong PK weapon, also good shorthanded weapon because of his speed (even though numbers don't back it up. Pens PK philosophy is also to seemingly to dump instead of getting more possession chances down ice)
-Surprisingly physical (100+ hits each of his last 2 full seasons, 83 in 48 games this season)
-Excellent defensively.
-Played almost exclusively with Sidney Crosby when Crosby was healthy these past two seasons. He was a great fit on that line because he can keep up with Crosby due to his speed, but his numbers are clearly inflated.

But again, he's already 34, so it's odd that his two best seasons have come so late in his career (and I mean that both skill wise and production wise. He definitely even looked better each of the past two seasons.).

So...thoughts?

4X4 from a team that was or should have been in the Northwest division.

Not quite sure how you can say his stats are clearly inflated because of Crosby. The guy had 25 goals and 59 points playing on Staal's wing the previous season.

I hope he takes a discount to stay in the Burgh, hopefully a bit longer to keep the AAV down. I expect something along the lines of 3 years 9M, hoping for something like 4 years 10M (3,3,2,2). I wouldn't blame him if he goes to FA to get paid though, someone would throw him 3 years 12M.

If he re-ups with Pens-3.5 mil for 3-4 years
Other team-4 mil for 4 years or 4.25 for 3 years

He's in outstanding shape and never misses games (2 missed game last 4 seasons) so I wouldn't be surprised to see him plugging along quite well into his late-30's.

Also think he's going to re-sign with the Pens. Has placed roots there and it's not likely he'll be centered by a similarly quality player if he signs elsewhere.

11 million over 3 years from Pitts. 3.67 cap hit, 3.5 salary each year plus 50K signing bonus.

If pittsburgh can convince him to take a discount then 2-2.5 but if he goes to fa probably 3.5.

He'll take a discount and stay or cash in and leave. I can't picture Shero offering him what other GMs might.

3mil if the Pens resign him. 4mil in open market. Hes a good depth piece but not a top line player.

Way too low, waaay too low. He's making 1.5 at the end of his contract. With how much his value has gone up he's not going to get a lowly 1m raise. I'd say if he stays with Pens somewhere around 3.5 and if other teams overpay for him somewhere between the 4m-5m range depending on how foolish they are.

I'd guess that Montreal puts a 3 year deal for him at 3.5m to 4m. He'd be perfect to replace Ryder on Plekanec's wing. We'd be back to 3 legitimate offensive lines.
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Gallagher
Dupuis - Plekanec - Gionta
Galchenyuk - Eller - Bourque
Moen - Halpern - Prust
White/Kristo

These figures are waay too low IMO, I would sign him for 2 years $10M ($5M AAV) without blinking.

One of the top ES players in the league who proved in 2011-12 that he can score without Crosby.

I believe the Pens will resign at about 4.25 or 4.5 for 3 or 4 seasons. Assuming they do, I suspect Letang will become trade bait. If Dupuis heads off for more cash the Pens probably keep Letang. I am perfectly happy with the Sens hunting the leftovers either way.

I don't Pens can justify paying him more than Kunitz's 3.725 caphit.

If Dupuis only wants 3.5 he's staying in Pittsburgh.

No matter how much he asks for i dont want him back. I love him but our coach has apparently signed some contract that doesnt allow sid to play with him or kunitz. You dont win with him in the top-6. Not a knock on him but hes best used on the third line.

Anyone who gives him above 3.25 and longer than 3 years is crazy. He's a 40 point player inflated by playing with the best player in the game and the highest scoring team.

WRONG! the guy put up some impressive numbers with Staal. He's learned alot from Crosby and can get points with or without him.

i love Dupuis's hustle and work ethic. i wish some of the Pens players had the compete level he had more often.

having said that, he's just not a top-6 player (like Malkinstheman said). he's perfect for a third line role, but he's not quite good enough to warrant playing him in the top-6. the fact that he was basically glued to Crosby's hip may mislead some people about what his real role should be (although he had a great year playing with mostly Staal a few seasons ago instead of Crosby, so it's not like he's useless without Crosby).

I think he definitely re-signs with the Penguins, and I would predict a 3 year deal with an AAV of around $3.25-$3.50m.
