He was good until the end of the season + playoffs where he totally disappeared. It's tough to say what really happened with him, he just stopped producing. And when Ryder isn't producing, he's useless. I don't think he has impressed enough the organization to keep him at 4M+ on a 3-year deal, probably even more. We're rebuilding right now and maybe he was never in the plans of the organization, in fact.
By getting him, the main goal was to get rid of Cole's contract. Cole had three more years before being a UFA, earning 4.5M and passed his peak. He was great for us last year but I think that a lot of people knew it would be tough for him to repeat what he did.
Truth be told, he's sooo slow and despite potting a few by just having average finishing ability (above the Habs team avg.), we could do much better if we need a "goal scorer". If I were SJ, I would stay away! (I'm hoping Kristo gets a shot at some point.)
I cant believe someone is asking this question; everyone knew for a fact that he was going to get dumped at season's end. He was there to help us get rid of Cole's salary and not to be kept once the season was over.
