No, that wasn't the topic. We were discussing the differences in what is perceived here and what the people running the team may actually be thinking.

Nobody knows obviously. Management will be looking to upgrade in any way they can but being able to do so is another story. As far as Murray identifying any specific needs - absolutely nothing has come out in the media, they've been awfully secretive about whats going on internally since the Bobby Ryan rumors at the draft last year.

Anyone think we might sign Bozak in FA to fill the 2C?

Nope. I doubt we'll be any sort of factor in FA.

That's nice to see. We'd have a very nice group of centres with Vinny in the fold.

Agreed. Having Getz/Vinny/Bonino as our top 3 guys (as well as Koivu if he re-signs here) allows us to compete with teams like LA and SJ down the middle. I think in our division only SJ could still say they had a better group than those 3 and even that's debatable.

Cool to hear. Shows initiative from our side, and him taking the meeting shows he isn't dead set on staying in the East, as many Habs/Leafs fans tried to make everyone believe. I don't really fancy our chances, and I have an almost impossible time picturing him in a Ducks jersey, but it would make things really interesting.

I'm not so sure that Bonino stays if we sign Koivu and Lecavalier, but we'll have to see. Here's hoping we can snag Vinny.

I think it's more about identifying Vinny as an available big upgrade moreso than about the spot being a central need.

But it would address one of our two needs without having to move someone like Ryan to get it. So depending on how the meeting goes Murray can move on to other options for that same need.

Sign Vinny, move Ryan for a defenseman, then move Hiller for futures if money is an issue...that would be my dream offseason...

Edit: I highly doubt Vinny comes to ANA though. Stephens agrees:

Ducks one of many, many teams w/interest in Vinny Lecavalier but likely he's going elsewhere. @TSNRyanRishaug reports they are talking.

Yeah there's a reason over 15 teams are interested in him. Chances are small but stranger things have happened.

Well if we do get him, I believe that would officially put Holland on the trade block.

We could package him for something nice in a trade tomorrow. It would be risky because we would have to trade him before we actually sign VL.

Let's hope things go well, but it's such a small chance he'll sign here.

dreams woudl come true if we could sign vinny to a decent contract.
bones in our 3rd line C would be awesome and then koivu could center that 4th line.
thats pretty deep down the middle imo

then we could either package holland in a trade or move him to LW where i think he'd do real well since hes got a sick wrister

In my opinion, if Seguin's available, Murray needs to be aggressive. He had a mediorce/poor playoff, so his value's at an all-time low(shouldn't be remotely available otherwise), and now would be the time to pounce. And if Horton's bolting, I could indeed see them being interested in getting a better scorer in Ryan to replace him.

I'd be fine with pursuing Seguin(even though his personality reminds me of Kane) but only for the right price. For all of the talent he has, he's still pretty raw as a player, and that adds uncertainty to his future. Which, of course, is probably why he's even available.

I'm too tired to read a 30 page thread. Can somebody give me the Cliffs Notes on why Tyler Seguin may be on the block? He seems to put up decent numbers, gets along with everybody, already is extended, and is young enough to likely get better. Why are the B's possibly shopping him? If somehow it's for financial reasons then I can't see them wanting Ryan, period.

From what I gather, part of it's because he was a disappointment in the playoffs, and part because he's simply not a great fit in Boston. A lot has been mentioned that they see him as a winger in Boston, but perhaps that's because he simply doesn't have certain abilities that they covet in a centerman. All their centers are good defensively and pretty good in the dot, and Seguin's so-so at best defensively and not so great in the dot.

To me, those are two awesome reasons for a guy of that calibre being available, and we should be pouncing. I think they'll keep him in the end, but if they don't, I really think they'll regret it.
