Panthers' Scottie Upshall frustrated by hit from Lightning's Radko Gudas

Had a chance to talk to Scottie Upshall today about last night's headshot. Seems pretty apparent that Gudas had some intent from Upshall's comments.

"He mentioned to me, 'That's what you get for squirting me with Gatorade,' " Upshall said. "I guess if you squirt a guy with Gatorade you get a blindside elbow to the lips."
Stay classy Gudas.

Every dog had his day, can't wait for the next meeting, the only positive from this is that its actually awaken a rivalry hatred

Earlier in the week someone said Lightning have no goons. I mentioned Gudas. They said not really.

Yeah...

Gudas would be insult to cavemen back in the day. Not even a face a mother could love. His head looks deformed too. What a joke player.

This thread needs some of Superman's GIF's.

It was me, it's hard for me to be sympathetic to Upshall here*, for most of the time I've watched hockey that's a good hit, I know it's new NHL and what not but it's maddening that someone with his injury history and his time in the league still plays with his head down.

*I may just be mad that his dumb careless penalty cost them a chance for the 2nd point, I really wanted to see the Panthers in a shootout with Jokinen and Boyes

it has! i like it even tho i'm sorry to see upshall taking a check to the face for that to happen. location would be reason enough to make panthers/lightnings one of the most intense rivalry in the league.

also; good read!

gudas plays on the edge and has a history of these type of hits. someone needs to give him a major beating to get him off the edge. the guy looks for these type of hits!!!!

At least the reader comments were positive towards Upshall. It's laughable that Fraser puts most of the blame on Upshall shile I feel it was clear that Gudas targeted the head.

As has been stated if this had occurred to Crosby or Kane Gudas would have received a lengthy suspension.

Just my .02

Will Gudas be a healthy scratch the next time these teams meet?

If you are actually unable the separate your emotions towards a shootout w what happened on that play then I won't be able to take your judgment seriously on any other hockey analysis. It's one thing to say that uppy put himself in a vulnerable position, like Fraser argued, and therefore Gudas stiff arm should be viewed in a slightly different light. It's a completely other thing to say that you think it was uppys fault because of a penalty he took later in the game costing us a point.

As for the actual hit, yeah he was vulnerable and should know better. Given their history and the fact that Gudas was clearly out to get him I don't understand how this wasn't reviewed by the league. If Gudas is unwilling to engage in a fight what are we suppose to do? Is thornton going to bertuzzi him next game? I hope not. But if the league won't police these actions and the players themselves won't answer for what they've done it will unravel to a dangerous situation where we retaliate in a dangerous matter or we simply let it be and continue to get run over.
