Liked Ferriero at BC but overall, meh trade for a player who could never really put it all together.

Initially, I'm ok with this.

I was never a huge fan of Falk. In his first call-up, he looked good and almost looked like he could stick in the top 4 but he just hasn't been able to get back there.

Don't know much about Ferriero. but looks like he could fit in nicely in the bottom 6.

So apparently this guy could be our 4th line center? Does that mean Konopka is gone, or is this an AHL/depth call-up signing?

Better than just letting Falk walk. At best he looked like an NHL player, but he was so inconsistent.

Fine with me. Possibly 4th liner in event Mitchell and/or Konopka are traded. Did not sound like Falk was in their plans moving forward. Think he was given several opportunities past two years and never progressed. I liked his game when he was involved physically - however, that was rare.

Worthless trade. Falk, despite all his inconsistencies, was still a young player at a position of need. And we trade him for a career AHLer and a throw away pick. wow.

I hope Falk was making ridiculous demands and we had to liquidate him or we are actually get rid of Kenopka and need some 4th line fodder.

If this is the only thing that happens from now until opening day, then I agree with your first paragraph.

I am a Fletcher & Co. supporter, but I think he has a weakness for overpaying for 4th liners. He hasn't realized that their value is actually next to nothing, because you can always find somebody.

How did he overpay in this case?

Falk was going to be a non-tendered player. In fact, he pretty much didn't pay anything at all. We can all have our own views of Falk but in their's, he wasn't worth keeping on roster. Even as a #7.

We basically got something for nothing in this case. Even if that something is pretty small.

The value is the 6th round pick. We could get a good goaltender.

AHL/borderline NHL player for AHL/borderline NHL, meh

I liked Falk for his size, physical play, and his willingness to drop the gloves. Something we are now lacking on Defense.

I guess this means this team is going with Stoner in the bottom-pairing moving forward.

Defense may be a position of need but Falk was never going to be the guy to fill that need. He absolutely had the potential but it was painfully obvious by watching him play the last couple years that he was just not going to get to where we needed him. Add in the fact that Scandella was just re-signed and now requires waivers to be sent down and Falk was the odd-man out.

Also, Fletcher and Co. has shown they can get value out of the 6th round (Kuemper, Gustafsson). I wouldn't exactly call it a "throw away pick".

At the very least, we got something for him instead of just not qualifying him and letting him go UFA.

1. Suter
2. Brodin
3. Spurgeon
4. Scandella
5. Stoner
6. Ahhhhhh
7. Hmmmmm

Gilbert is gone. Prosser brings less than Falk. Cuma and the Houston boys aren't NHL material. Dumba is far from being NHL ready.

So, that leaves exactly who for the #6 and #7 spots? Gunnarson maybe. But that's a gamble.

If Fletcher got ANYTHING for Falk, then you could convince me that it was a good trade. But getting rid of a guy with youth, upside, and in the shallow position for peanuts is a moving the deck chairs trade.

Just a meh trade. Never cared for Falk so it's better to get something for him since he wasn't coming back.
