I hereby give a free pass to the phrase "free pass" and am giving out free passes for all players. Get em while they're hot.

Anyone would want him on their team, if the rules are bent and he doesn't have to be a 1st line center.

Recent cup winners always have inflated reputations, especially Canadian ones.

If Kopitar were from Scarborough instead of Slovenia people would still be calling him a top 5 center.

Can't disagree with anything in this thread. Him and Kane both have to step it up if they want another ring.

Goals certainly aren't the main part of Toews' game that I would be disappointed about as a Hawks fan. If he is not scoring goals at least he is doing a lot of other good things. Except for tonight where he was really ineffective everywhere. He does need to bury that tip in goal he had set up for him, though.

Heard Hawks fans before saying they think he is hurt. Something with his wrist? There was a shot of him wincing in pain with the left wrist wrapped in a towel on the bench that I saw.

Oh, man. Classic HFboards right now. Toews was monstrously overrated for a period of one or two years. Then everyone caught on.

Now he's in the midst of becoming underrated because HFboards is overcompensating.

Mike Green Syndrome. Or maybe Roberto Luongo Syndrome.

Just goes to show you what happens to your career reputation after one great playoff performance and win on a stacked cup team. Meanwhile Marleau's GPG average raises by a little over 6 in the playoffs (prorated over a full season, sthg like 28 to 34 iirc) but he's a choker because he never was on a team where players like Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien were depth players.
Ah yes, Patrick Marleau. He's played 24 elimination plus game 6's in his career. 4 G, 3 A for 7 points in those 24 games. His "intangibles" must be enormous.

Might've been that leaping Lucic hit in the first.

The rumors about Toews having some kind of arm injury (I've heard shoulder or wrist) date back prior to this series.

Wow! That is ridiculously low number. For a guy who is a good/great goal scorer and has a reputation as a good playoff/big game performer.

Toews's production has been incredibly disappointing, but no surprise that he is beloved by the media. They like winners. And Toews is a winner.

Whatever he is now (as he's had a few poor years), that playoff run was spectacular. So was his Olympics. How many players can lead their team to a championship at such a young age? How many players are 200-foot guys at such a young age?

Toews playing that way is very worthy of a lot of praise.

Maybe something like this:

Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin last week was given an eight-year, $76 million contract extension despite his lack of production vs. the Bruins in the Eastern Conference finals. Cherry made it clear he’s not a fan of the 26-year-old Russian.

“I wouldn’t give that guy anything,” Cherry said. “I think he’s a dog — a talented dog. He turns it on when he wants to turn it on. He couldn’t play for the Bruins, I’ll tell you that. You’re going to say, ‘Well, what about [Jaromir] Jagr?’ Jagr’s out there giving every ounce he’s got every time. I don’t know if he can score, but he’s giving every ounce he can. You can’t compare them.

“I wouldn’t have that Malkin. I know he’s talented, I know. But to me, he’s a loser, as far as I’m concerned.”

The 2010 Canadian Olympic Team & Chicago Blackhawks were loaded with talent. Kane & Byfuglien were just as responsible for that Cup run as Toews.

Good player...highly overrated.
