I also do not think Spurgeon is eligible to file for arbitration, just the club. If the club files arbitration in the case of a QO being rejected, it could potentially burn them. While it would allow them to extend their compliance buyout window, it could also mean that the arbitration committee (if it gets that far) gives Spurgeon a lot more.

It is a gamble, but one that GMCF may have to take.
What is the min contract extension for RFA's on qualifying offers this year? Can they induce it with incentives at all? Or possibly just a formal promise with his Agent and himself that when he is up for UFA he gets PAID. Which could burn us in the longrun, but keeps him here if he thinks the offer is insulting.

Falk and Prosser can be waived can't they? Or were they on 1-ways?
Falk is RFA, we can just walk away.

Prosser is on a 1-way but could be bought out, I think even at the reduced 1/3 of salary rate. I would do that and eat a couple hundred grand and keep the two compliance spots open.

Yeah, Scandy just got 1.025m as a RFA. No chance Spurgeon takes any less than that, and he shouldn't. He's been better than Scandy for most of the time, and he is our #3 D-man, like it or not.

I think Feaster/CGY has mentioned that they're willing to take some expensive contracts during their transition period... I wonder if we could move Heatley to Calgary?

I dunno. I watched a lot of Canes games in the shortened season and don't really see that much of a problem in his game.

Who knows, maybe we can make it work with Gilbert, but 4 million for this year seems a bit much based on his illness-riddled 48 games.
Yeah, like I said, I'm not against going after him, I was just going off of the handful of comments I have read from Canes fans. Who is he normally paired with in Carolina?

I'd much, much rather have Gilbert than McBain. Frankly, it's a no brainer. Especially if you're going to be dumping Gilbert outright and having to trade an asset like Clutterbuck for McBain. If you're so dead set on moving Clutterbuck for a defender, at least add to him in order to find better quality. Which is what the Wild need in the first place. Not another #5-7 defenseman.

As far as Spurgeon's next contract, I think a lot of you are going to be surprised at just how lucrative his deal is compared to the numbers some throw around...

Qualifying offers are 1 year deals.

With his age, I don't think the Wild would even be at risk next off season of him filing for arbitration. I think the earliest a player can do that is a specific game threshold (which he may hit this coming season) or age 25. He's only 23.

I don't particularly think it matters in the long run. Keep him here in the short term and wait for Dumba and possibly Gunnarson to mature. If he shows that he is unhappy, trade the kid...

Granted, I admit that my opinion is not as high about the kid as quite a number of other posters.

I think he'll get somewhere between $1.4-1.8m on a one-year deal.

I feel like we Cullen will take a discount now for one last season. Hopefully we can get him and spurgeon for the remaining cap we have left and then trade Buck for A cheap defenseman.

Ya I don't see Spurgeon signing for less than Scandella. Spurgeon has played quite a bit the last two years and has become an important player for our current group. I think he signs for around 2 mill. That makes signing Cullen and Clutter pretty tough. I would like to see us trade Clutter and sign Cully for 2 years, but he will want atleast 3 like Backs.

Just had a random thought.

Seeing as the Wild should be active this week and if Cullen doesn't re-sign, I think GMCF might be looking to trade Setoguchi.

Why? Not because I don't like him. More because he will have a 3.25M (still 3M cap hit) salary next season and he didn't look very good without Cullen and Bouchard at the end of the season. Maybe that could prevent from buying out someone. Also, I wouldn't mind if Konopka was traded.

I think Seto and Clutter are trade bait.

Rupp I think could be a buyout candidate.

Rupp won't be bought out before Gilbert is. Absolutely correct about Seto and Clutter being trade bait.

If both Clutterbuck and Seto were going to be traded, I'd expect to get some draft picks back at least.

Better keep Coyle on the RW if we're trading Seto.

I think one of Setoguchi/Clutterbuck will be traded. But not both.

My money would be on Setoguchi.

Safe to say it will depend on if Cullen re-signs or not?

I would think a trade would happen before even approaching Cullen. (I don't think he's remotely in their plans, however.)

I think if one of Clutter/Seto are moved, Heatley would move to RW and Granlund would be in the top nine at LW.

Then we had better package Mitchell with Seto being that they each own half of a heart-shaped BFFs necklace. Won't wanna deal with a disgruntled #17.

At least this offseason is more calm. This time last year we were at the point of anxiety, anger, excitement, depression, more anxiety, more anger, and more depression with every developing Parise and Suter rumor.

How are we celebrating our 1-year anniversary this year?

Cheap deal for Backstrom decent I guess. Now that we got the goalies squared away we need a Number 2 center and another Dman with signing an FA or trading someone like Seto Clutter, Gilbert, Konopka, or anyone else Who do you guys think we should target now?

No money to target anyone. GMCF is not in an enviable spot.

I'd want to try Mitchell and Seto on the same line, because... Why not?

if we could move heatley, that would be amazing.

if we get rid of clutter and seto, I would think Granlund is a must on the wild roster, he could fill in on the wing.
