Sabres Draft Day Trades

Just pulling together a lot of different thoughts from the Boards to see what Buffalo could possibly do. This would be my go to scenario...

Vanek to Vancouver for Jensen, Gaunce, 24th pick

Miller to Philly at half price for 2013 2nd and conditional 2014 2nd if resigned

Stafford and #38 to Ottawa for #17

Ehrhoff, and 17 to Nashville for 4

At this point I would wait to see how the top 2 picks go. If it goes Jones/Mack then I would trade with Tampa to get Drouin.

#4 pick and 2 2014 2nd's

Sabres draft Drouin (replaces Vanek) at 3
Then BPA at 8, 16, and 24

I'd love to see the Sabres' NHL roster after all these deals. You're going to be forcing a lot of guys into duty who either aren't ready for the NHL, or aren't ready for the roles they'd be forced into.

Also, you might want to ask CBJ fans if we can trade their 17th pick with Ehrhoff to Nashville for #4. (We draft 16th.)

OTT has #17, which he acquired in the Stafford trade above. That said, Nashville will hang up at that offer. Actually, OTT would too as I'm not that high on Stafford

Now post Buffalo's roster after these trades. I bet more than half of it hasn't even finished puberty yet.

As a Sabres fan a 10 year rebuild is enticing but I think I will pass.

Hah yeah im just putting all the trade ideas and scenarios Ive seen on the MB into one big offseason. Thought it would be interesting. And Darcy did say we had to prepare for some suffering.

The Ottawa Deal came based off them needing a scoring winger and Stafford needing a change of scenery. On Spezza's wing he would bounce back.

If its Ehrhoff an 8 for 4 and Blum then Nashville needs to add. The gap between 8-4 is not Ehrhoff.

Who does Ottawa have on the wing? They were one of the main fan bases wanting Vanek.

I think I'd rather hold on to Miller if thats the return. Even with the conditional thats not really enough. The biggest flaw in Miller right now is his contract and if he were resigned he would be more valuable than 2 2nds.

Would much rather trade him without taking on part of the cap hit (for whatever we can get), or buy him out for the $2m hit. A $3m deadspace cap hit for a 2nd rounder is a no go for me.

No way Vanek gets that much in return IMO.

vancouver also dosent need anymore high priced forwards, they need the depth guys, the 1-3 million dollar type players to round out the roster

So to summarize:
Sabres trade Vanek, Miller, Stafford, Ehrhoff, #38 pick, 2 #2 picks in 14'
get back
Jensen, Gaunce, 24th pick, Phily's 2nd in 13' (maybe another one in 14') and #3 pick

OK that's simple, gut the roster, replace it with rookies or guys who were in the AHL last year...

never occurred to you to try to use the #8 and #16 pick (38, 52 and 69 too) as assets which is the most likely scenario at the draft.

oh brother

Vanek gets 2 players + a 1st if he is dealt.

Miller will come back with more than a 2nd.

Sorry and how is Vancouver going to be able to afford Vaneks $7.5 million cap hit when there already up against the cap as is.

A couple of things....first Ottawa would likely never go for the Stafford trade. He makes $4m and didn't produce last year.

No way Nashville gives up a chance to pick this high for an overpaid Erhoff and pick 17. I could see Vancouver making a deal like this IF Vanek resigns and my guess is he wants to see what the market is next summer (Wild). Doubtful they pay that much for a rental player.

Finally, I don't see how the Sabres can make these trades and reach the cap floor?

Ottawa, Nashville, and Vancouver all laugh at those offers and hang up the phone.
