Sergei Kostitsyn to KHL

per Igor Eronko
Quote:
#Avangard GM told Izvestia.ru they offered contract to Sergei Kostitsyn and there're 'no objections' from David Poile #KHL #Preds
Quote:
#Avangard GM also said Kostitsyn has several more offers to consider and it's not clear yet if he returns
Kostitsyn is under contract for next season with Nashville, but if Poile is permitting him to leave, I would guess he and Kostisyn will mutually agree to terminate his contract. There have been reports all season that Kostisyn was much happier in the KHL and would like to come back. It looks like things might be heading in that direction.

As long as both sides are happy.

I think it's a bit too soon to give up on him, especially considering Nashville's need for offense. He had one bad 48 game season, I don't see why they shouldn't bring him back to at least play his contract out.

A Kostitsyn-free NHL is always a good thing...more imporatnatly, though; can the Habs have back the draft picks they wasted on them??...

Would this give us an extra $3 mil in cap room, or are we still on the hook for another year?

At this point, as a Preds fan, I'd rather have the 3 mil in cap space than SK himself. He was a good player for us in 10-11 and 11-12. I wish him well if he does move on.

Contract would have to be terminated, so we'd be off the hook for cap hit and cash.

I disagree about the Kostitsyn-free NHL comment. They're not bad players, in fact they're better than the average player in the NHL and I don't think anyone can argue that. They just both have issue on and off the ice.

Some people could say that he has been given up on too soon but I think his attitude and ethic really came into question with the goal against Edmonton that came from his attempt to change rather than chase. He also hasn't really lived up to his ability so the KHL will probbaly be best for him.

I want to be mad about this I really do I just can't. SK is the perfect example of a player who constantly leaves you wanting more because he won't apply himself. If he had the competitive nature of most professional athletes he would be a great player.

I don't think he is happy anymore, and I think it has a lot to do with his performance last season. If we can free up the cap space to sign someone else, why not do it? We don't need an unhappy player here hoping he can bounce back and find the offense that, to be honest, wasn't really great outside of his first year here. He floats too much. He ignores good shooting opportunities to try to force passes, and with a team full of guys who pass-first-shoot-second he is redundant.

If he wants to go back and Poile is OK with that it tells me that this is the best move for both sides.

I don't mind, we got amazing value for him while he was here. Two Ufa's who didn't even sign with Montreal for a player who tied for the lead in points on our team. Wish him well.

I don't really think it's giving up too soon. If he's not happy in the NHL and wants to go to the KHL, I don't see himself really applying more effort. It's just the way it is.

Speak for yourself. I will miss the potential Grabovski v. Kostitsyns slap fests. Good times.

Shocking, absolutely shocking.

Shame, both Kostitsyns have so much talent but their effort is less than Kovalev's

There goes my dream of having the Kostitsyn-Gagner-Kane line reunited at the NHL level

Best for both sides in the long run. Excited to see his minutes and money given to someone else. Gives the Preds more money to grab a buyout or FA.

Too bad he was stuck playing for a coach who's into curfews and publicly calling out his own players (not unlike a Soviet coach)

Not sure they would need to terminate his contract. If SK wants to play a season in the KHL I would assume that the Preds could reach an agreement to "suspend" him, thus maintaining his NHL rights if he chooses to return
