the offense is so good because Letang is a big part of it.

also you want speed and youth on your bottom six and you miss Mike Rupp? "ok"

and you gotta have a backup plan in case you sign an injury plagued Malone? wth are you talking about?
so you're saying Letang is better than Phanuef defensively? okay then...

the offense is good because letang is a big part of it? care to elaborate on that?

speed and youth on the 3rd line. would mike rupp be centering the 3rd line?

and do we need a back up plan for a guy who will probably be on the 4th line...? seriously?

if you disagree with me bro, fine. but at least come up with better stuff than that.

At this point however, I wouldn't bring either back (maybe Bugsy, depending on cash).
But these two are lacking big time in the area of speed and youth. Yet another point of contention and the reasons why I wasn't happy with the Iginla or Morrow deals at the time..
didn't mind morrow. if he could be had for under 2 million, i'd take him. he could fit on the 4th line.

I would think he would be a more vocal leader in a full season.

always liked rupp. felt he would have been good for us. just don't see how you can put vitale on the 4th line. the lack of big bodies makes us hard to play against.

If letang agrees to an extension i think you would have to make it the 8th pick.

If that is the case that would be a pretty good haul for pittsburgh

2014 Crosby/Malkin/Letang will combine for 25.2 mil... no idea what the cap with be, but we'll say 68 for argument's sake... or 37% of the cap.

Red Wings in 2008?

Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lidstrom

Datsuky- 6.7
Zetterberg- 2.6
Lidstrom 7.4
=16.75 million
=33%

now math is not my strong suit... so you tell me, is 37% of the cap more or less than 33% or 34%?
Lidstrom, Datsyuk, and Rafalski, slick.

so when I said that letang cant get paid 7 million because it would handcuff this team and prevent them from winning the cup... your counter argument is telling me that we have done it before... in a year that we didn't win the cup?

Yes. Why do we have to win the Cup to not be handcuffed by a contract?

The point is that not only have we had a higher % of the cap taken up by 3 players before, a recent Cup winner has had a higher % of the cap taken up by 3 players before, and we're only projecting for 2014-15. The cap is inflationary and will almost certainly only go up from there.

A Letang contract will present us with no challenges that haven't been seen by our organization or overcome by other Cup winners before. We will easily be able to fill out a contending roster with the remaining cap space. Suggesting otherwise ignores history.

As for one of the forwards, I admit its fair value, but not a deal the Oil would be looking to make. The Oil are looking for a package for upgrade deal. If not with the Pens, we'll shop elsewhere.
uh lol Pouliot had an awesome season and is on track to be a top pairing dman with enormous potential.

Sutter is already a proven commodity and a hell of a lot better than Paajarvi. Dumo vs Petry is tbd.....neither is anywhere near a sure bet.

So ya the deal last year was better. Not only that though, last year we werent trading a 26 yr old dman who was just voted top 3 in the league and was point a game. We dealt Staal who handcuffed Shero into only trading him to Carolina and having no leverage at all.

If the oil wont move a top 4 fwd then its time for their fans to move the fk on because we dont want the spare parts in a deal where we would send out a superstar dman.

I'd love to get Blum and Hornqvist from the Predators.

In a fantasy land, if Shero couldn't re-sign Kris Letang...

To Nashville - Dustin Jeffrey + Kris Letang
To Pittsburgh - Jonathon Blum + Patric Hornqvist + 3rd Rounder (From Tampa).

Sarcasm aside, those 2 guys are untouchable for the Preds. I mean the contract Josi just got and how good he's been, they'd probably look to add to that blueline top 4 and Josi would be an untouchable with Klein and Weber.

I'd love to get Josi on the Pens, but it's not going to happen.

Let's try :

Kristopher Letang

Raphael Diaz
Travis Moen
Nathan Beaulieu
1st round draft pick (2014)

That's a lot to give from the Habs point of view, but this defensive squad would be pretty awesome :

Subban - Letang
Markov - Emelin
Tinordi/Bouillon - Gorges

And definitely not the kind of roster players you expect a team to take when they are giving up a guy like Letang.

No thanks. That's a horrible trade for the Penguins. Moen? Jeez. No.

1. the pick is in 2014 which would be USELESS in any deal for Letang
2. the best player coming back to Pittsburgh is a prospect and they REALLY don't need more prospects in their defense; they need proven talent returning for their defense
3. one of the roster players is Travis freaking Moen for crying out loud

it's the epitome of a quantity-for-quality deal. don't sell it with "it's a lot to give up"; it's only a lot in the sense that 4 > 1. it's not even close to a lot in terms of value.

Loving all the NHL13 GMs in here, truly some inspired trades. Since everyone else is apparently using XBOX to gauge the value of players, anyone think Norris Trophy winner RYAN WHITNEY would bring in Letang or will the Pens have to add something to get the deal done?
