North Korea was said to be readying for a long-range missile test of the Taepadong-2 missile. Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death. Oh, and our hockey team won something.

Are you trying to tell me that a professional ice hockey team won a national championship in, or around the vicinity of the Triangle?

I find that hard to believe.

They didn't REALLY win it. Through a combination of luck and injuries (some inflicted by us, such as when Justin Williams callously dug out both of Saku Koivu's eyes or when Andrew Ladd callously targeted Dwayne Roloson's knees), the Canes became the WORST. TEAM. EVER. to win a Stanley Cup and made a mockery of the sport. If only Saku hadn't gotten hurt/Buffalo didn't have Mike Card/Edmonton had their starting goalie, we would have gotten knocked out like the Sun Belt losers that we are, considering we couldn't even sell out our own arena were it not for those heroic Buffalonians buying up the extra tickets so we'd look semi-respectable on national TV.

BTW, anybody have a police report?

I'm not sure if linking to it would be considered trolling so I won't, but, if you can find the Oiler's Game 7 GDT, it's worth a read if you need a laugh.

I can't believe a trophy as sacred and steeped in tradition as the Stanley Cup went to a team from the Sun Belt that has cheerleaders.

Commenting in that thread would be trolling*.

Linking to it would be education

* No really, commenting in that thread would be pretty low, even by troll standards.

I'm not *THAT* bad. I have no interest in bumping a 7 year old thread, just was merely pointing out that parts of it were somewhat funny

Still remember I missed the whole 1st period because of a thunderstorm that caused the satellite to go out.

I went back and found the GDT for the game 7 against the Devils in '09.

It. was. amazing.

I started following the team during the 2006 Regular Season, when I got invited to a game with one of the guys my dad played in a beer league with (and who I would later play in a beer league with). Prior to that, I had never really followed any sports. Wound up being a pretty good ride.

Hmm, may need to break out the DVD and rewatch game 7. I think I have it around here somewhere...

I was there, that was for my 19th Birthday present from my parents (went with my Mom - they had/still have season tickets). What a gift. One of the best moments of my life.

I was at game 2 with my dad and brother. We looked at going to game 7, but the prices were really quite remarkable.

That GDT was a rollercoastr ride.

And some of the irony from the sour grapes after the game cannot be understated

My favorite part was the guy who lost it after Williams scored. Something about how he killed Edmonton and also blinded Koivu. There is no god

They used to sell them already cut like that in the official team store, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure it's no longer on shelves.

10/10 day. Would relive again.

I remember cursing at the TV when that late 1st period goal didn't count. Was all good in the end though.
