One other late Avs note: Adam Foote will be a part-time D coach. Non- traveling
Our coaching staff is basically a reunion.

Hey he played hockey right and has no coaching expirence?! That is the biggest requirement to join the Avs management. Fits our profile perfectly.

Don't mind him as a consultant to work with the defense, which is what he is. Glad Roy brought on two other full time guys though.

It's not like EJ, Barrie, Elliott, and Siemens couldn't use the help. There's still other young defensemen in this organization.

Foote only played with EJ, Wilson and Hunwick so I guess it's not that awkward.

I would still have preferred if Foote spent another year or two away from Avs just to be properly quarantined.

It's not a big deal right now but as I say we'll have to see how it goes. If just stays a consultant that's fine but know with all the Foote speculation we've been hearing for weeks now I suspect he'll be phased in to replace Army next year.

I don't see what the big deal is, it's not like Foote knows how to play defense or anything, or could be a vet presence to get the D to play the way they should. Oh wait... He'll work on fundamentals, not in-game coaching decisions or systems etc.

To the posters who will inevitably turn this into a nepotism debate, the Devils did the same thing with Scott Stevens before he became an assistant coach. He just helped in practice and was 1 on 1 with the defenseman. There is nothing wrong with this move. It is getting to the point where there will be 15 chefs in the kitchen though. People are wondering how Roy could possibly coach and be GM, well you are seeing how.

Probably just want to include him, potentially groom him for an assistants job maybe. With all his experience/leadership having him show up at some practices can't hurt, doubt it's anything major. Whatever, can't hurt.

All he's is is a part time defense consultant. People seriously get bent over the silliest ****. Even if we had a full coaching staff an they did this I'd be thrilled. It's not going to hurt to have Adam Foote talk to our defense and give them pointers in the least.

it's not really a surprised , they are good friends , Foote and Roy played so long togetter , won 2 cups and were roommates on the road.

As long as Foote doesnt coach our Dman the same way like Jacques Cloutier used to coach them , i'll be happy .

Don't understand why anybody would complain. Foote was any teams idea defensive defenseman. He's just going to be brought in to get familiar with players and staff before he takes on a more important role down the road. He can help out in small portions and slowly adapt to being a coach at the NHL level. I don't think this could be done any better. It's much scarier thinking about our unexperienced coaching staff than it is thinking of Adam Foote being around to become a friend to our players and offering up some advice when needed. I think the team needs more of that.

It's an entry level job and there have been years of complaints about our defense not displaying pugnacity like Foote did.

If the Avs were going to hire anyone as a part-time non-travelling cush coaching gig (aka "Come By When You Want and shoot around with the young guys") it should be Ray Bourque, not Foote.

Kind of suprised he is coming on this year, even as a part time hire. Thought he wanted to continue coaching his children a little while longer.

Either way, with Foote and Roy in the coaching mix the players had better be ready to toughen up. I expect some pretty intense practices and brutual practices if there is a losing streak or overall poor play.

What a hilariously awkward day it will be when all the former legends are fired.

Didn't Sakic say they were doing things differently now?

It's funny. When I went up to Denver for Sakic's retirement ceremony, I bought three framed pictures. The centerpiece was a matted, signed picture of Sakic with his career stats on a plaque (my fiance gives pretty amazing gifts). The other two were pictures of Roy and Foote. They are the only pictures of players I have hanging in my house. Now, I'm not superstitious or anything, but do we have any other coaching/gm vacancies we need to fill? I could always make some room.

He's not even full time. All he's doing is coming in to talk to the defense occasionally and you find a way to complain. He won't be on the bench. He won't b traveling with the team. He might not even be with them that much. I didn't want him as full time assistant, but this is nothing.
