Josh Gorges...nice guy...good in the change room...but gets manhandled on our defence...slowed up this year...won't be tradeable in 2 years time...his salary will be a burden for the team.[/QUOTE]

Or he bounces right back, has a great year, and helps us go the distance.

I like Josh Gorges as a person, represents the Habs well, though it is clear despite his effort...he no longer has the ability to be a top six defenseman and is hardly worth the $3.9 million per year salary over the next four years.

Wait up, he didn't have a great year, but you are saying he isn't even a bottom pairing D-man ? Cmon.

I doubt San Jose would do that, but to be honest I'm not sure if I would be happy, or upset.

Gorges needs to be utilized in the bottom pairing. 3.9 is a lot for a 5/6 D though

Josh Gorges is good guy...tries 100 per cent all the time...despite that...he has slowed down...offers little or no offensive contribution. In two years time, he won't be tradeable because of his $3.9 million per year contract.

And who do you presume we replace him with ? Rookies? Trade assets to acquire a worse player ?

I am confident Marc Bergevin can find the necessary player to compliment our defensive corps.

I'd love to have more picks...but the San Jose one doesn't do it for me. It is a great draft, but there's a limit. I'd definately go with the Calgary one and that's it. The gap is there before 28 and 37...and it is less there for 56 to 67 so there's no point in going with the Oilers. Even less with San Jose.

gimme your picks and a comparable NHL player. future projections would also be nice but theyre not needed

1 of each:

Defense1: Morin - Morrissey
Defense2: Santini - McCoshen
Forward: Mantha - Rychel - Gauthier - Lazar - Heartman

Honestly if the habs are trading down u have 3 better options then the ones u suggested.

- 25th overall to Dallas for the 29th or 30th & 40th
- 25th overall to Anaheim for 26th & 45th
- 25th overall to Columbus for 27th & 44th.

Ill say it one more time I would be more happy if the habs traded down and got another couple of picks.

Hey Grant, have been looking back at your posts, your top 30 and your comments about Mueller and McCaron as well your having Gauthier at 21. Starting to change who I am rooting for that we get at 25. Just wondering if you have a 31-40 list since we have the 34th and 36th picks. Thanks.

Agree completely. I think every aspect of his game is underrated.

Theodore is usually a greek name though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_(name)
In French, Théodore

Must be from french descent. Greek is an old language, and is a latin based language just like French. Maybe he's of greek heritage, but they probably spell it the right way

With Jim Nill in Dallas you can forget about pillaging them with such an offer.

edit: my bad.....I initially read it as all 3 picks in exchange for the 25th

Hey Hab fan guys (and girls)...was wondering if any of you bought the yearly THN Prospect magazine recently? (THN: The Hockey News).

I collect the THN Prospect magazine every year...but I'm kind of late this year...will get it soon!

Was wondering...any of you know THN's top 30?
Thanks in advance...but I have to get the mag after St-Jean when everything is open again...need it for my collection!

Happy St-Jean to everyone! (Bonne St-Jean tout le monde! drink but be safe and happy! and if you're sexually frustrated...stay home and drink at home so you don't get violent towards nice people who don't deserve your frustrations!!).

Cheers!

Do you guys know if it will be streamed online somewhere? I don't have TSN, and I really want to watch the draft.

One week to go

#34 - Justin Bailey - C/RW - 6'3" - 195 lbs. - A power forward in the making, with Mike double trouble coming soon.

#36 - Ian McCoshen - LD - 6'3" - 207 lbs. - A solid Shutdown dman with some offence.

#55 - John Diaby - LD - 6'5" - 231 lbs. - Punishing shutdown defenceman that will keep the front of the crease clear for Price.

#71 - Matt Buckles - C - 6'2" - 210 lbs. - Another power forward with speed and natural goal scoring abilities.

#85 - Zach Sanford - C/LW - 6'4" - 195 lbs. - One more power forward with playmaking and goal scoring abilities.

#175 - Tyler "Hulk" Hill - LW - 6'6" - 230 lbs. - Policy Maker / Peacekeeper / Power Forward / Statement Player.

#205 - Liam Coughlin - C - 6'3" - 215 lbs. - The 6th and final power forward selected in this year's draft by the Habs.

After this draft there will be very little doubt which direction the Habs are headed. Bergevin is building his team with some size in both forward and defence corps, leaving fans the confidence our team will not be pushed around. Teams that used to think they could come into the Centre Bell and lay a beating on the Habs, have another thing coming in the future. If the Habs pick a goalie, Jusse Saros stands to be their choice. It's not likely a Francophone goalie will be chosen, too many teams in the hunt for goalie prospects this year.

There are two defencemen chosen, the 6th & 7th round choices will be projects. That leaves McCarron and Buckles that would be true PWF's, Bailey C/RW & Sanford C/LW have the recquisite skills to carry a line. They have the size and could be PWF's also, but their games should be as playmaking forwards with physicality. It will be at least 3-4 yrs. before they can gain the muscle necessary to play the PWF game, IMHO.

Yes, his skating and stickhandling is good for a player his size. As well his board work and cycling are outstanding as is his shot. All this from Hockey Writers, a quote from one of the scouts. His play at the U/18 tournament was a testimony to how far his game has come. Also he will go to play for the Hunter's London Knights if the team that drafts him wants that.

Just salivating thinking how good he could become for the Habs.

No offense Woodlief has him as. Next Brad Winchester? Skill has to be there in first round. Go for guy like Rychel who has combination of hands and size.

We drafted first round tons of guys before for size never worked out? Turner Stevenson, Terry Ryan, Vallis, Komisarek, Bilodeau, Wilkie, Brown, Ward, etc...
