Fact or Fiction: "The Ottawa Senators: 2004 Stanley Cup Champions" Fiction. The Devils are a better tem in the East, so they will again narrowly miss on the Finals.

Fact or Fiction: "Alexander Frolov will have a break-out year." Fiction. Then again, it depends what you mean by breakout. Hell have a decent rookie season, but not spectacular.

Fact or Fiction: "Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya will light it up in Colorado." Fact. They will regain old form playing on the same line.

Fact or Fiction: "Dallas Stars: Stanley Cup Finalists" Fiction. As good as the Stars are, the Wings are better. With goaltending help, the Avs are better as well.

Fact or Fiction: "Curtis Joseph will resurrect his career in St. Louis (or another city)" Fiction. He won't go to St. Louis. Where he does go, he'll be moderately successful. No Cup in his future though.

Fact or Fiction: "Scoring will be up (from last year) in the NHL" Fact. At least I hope so.

Fact or Fiction: "Dominic Hasek will once again be 'The Dominator." Fact. The man has an insane workout program and is in great shape as always. It will take a while for the rust to wear off, but he'll be back to Stanley Cup form.

Fact or Fiction: "Svitov will show marked improvement in Tampa." Fact. At least I hpe so for the Lightning's sake. They need more scoring threats outside of St. Louis, Lecavalier, and Richards, especially now that Vaclav Prospal is gone

Fact or Fiction: "Vancouver Canucks: Your 2004 Northwest Division Champs." Fiction. They showed last year that they can't finish the job, and with an even better Colorado lineup, don't expect the Avs to struggle in the early part of the season like last year. The Avs will win the division with relative ease.

Fact or Fiction: "Darryl Sutter will keep Calgary in contention for a playoff spot." Fiction. Nobody can keep that team with that goalie in contention for too long. Too bad. I'd love to see Jarome Iginla in the playoffs, but the Westis so insanely deep that the Flames have no chance to do anything this year.

All are fiction IMO, including this one, but for god's sake the Avs haven't done squat trying to upgrade in net, so no if's and such.. Whether the Wings are better then the Stars is irrelevant, to me both are in a league of their own in the Western Conference. The Avs, Nucks and Blues are all lacking the most important position.

History has shown that depth up the middle is as important as goaltending when the playoffs come around.

It's probably a huge bonus to have and it's often overlooked, but to me, nothing is more important then a solid, no wait, a great netminder..

Frankly, I love Quinville's (sp) system, it makes the goalies having less responsibility. The Nucks likewise, but to a lesser degree, they also have an inconsistant netminder with no to zilch experience. And the Avs have always relied on Roy, always.. I probably rank the Blues higher then both the Avs and Nucks.

Sorry... I didn't really make myself clear. I was really trying to point out the Wings' lack of centers than pointing out the Blues' strength there. IMO, the only way the Wings go anywhere is if Yzerman can score 60+ points.

Trust me, I understand the importance of a goaltender. Every Blues fan does. That said, I'm pretty confidence that Osgood will be successful in St. Louis. But, I understand that's not a guarantee by any means so I can't tell someone they are wrong when they point out that the Blues are lacking in goal.

Yzerman won't even play center from my understandings. They probably start with Datsuyk and have Zetterberg returning to his center position. Hudler and Draper cover the last 2 center spots. I agree it isn't dandy and up to the par of the Blues (Weight, Demitra), Avs (Sakic, Forsberg) or Stars (Modano, Arnott, Turgeon), but they compensate for it with a nearly perfect defense.

Though, personally.. I feel they still have a questionmark in net.

Yup.. I question whether Hasek can return to form.

When you are 39, you will have more trouble adjusting, especially when you haven't played competitive hockey for nearly 15 months. It needs time..

Curtis Joseph is injured longterm and his future with the Wings seems dead. And even though they probably have the league's top backup, he's 32 and hasn't started a season in his career, nor has any playoff experience.

All depends on Hasek whether he adjusts fast or not..

I agree with the concern about Hasek returning to form.. but since Joseph is coming back soon and hasn't yet been moved, they'll have a pretty good backup. IMO, it would be a real concern had they accomplished moving Joseph.

I have a problem with this statement. It's not like he had a bad year. Had Hasek never returned, we woudln't be using the word resurrect at all. He'd hardly even be discussed because he would simply be the starting goaltender for the Wings.
