and the Calder goes to.... [UPDATE: Post #237 Nail Not Nominated]

with one game left on the schedule, nail yakupov has put himself right in the mix for calder consideration. after tonights game he is now tied with Huberdeau for the rookie lead in goals and points. it would appear that going into their final game of the season Nail may have the slight edge, as he has produced at the same pace as J.H well averaging almost 2 and a half less minutes of time per game and a better +\- (-6 as compared to J.H's -16). finnaly, his shooting % is 6% higher than Huberdeau's. Will this finnaly be the year that one of our 1st overall picks finnaly brings home the hardware??

If you follow the beat writers from all teams on Twitter it's pretty obvious Yak isn't winning. I`d be surprised if hes a finalist. Given the fact I've seen people say they filled out their cards yesterday won't help.

yeah but he needs 200 hits, 200 shots, +20 +/- stat, and leadership qualities.

points really don't mean much to be honest.

Looks like there have been exactly zero Oilers to ever win the Calder. After debuts of Eberle, Hall, RNH and Yak...not to mention any dynasty oilers who started their career here...that's a little strange.

+/- Also is a factor in the winning, I do believe. He might not have that one but Huberdeau's gone cold lately(Or so It seams from highlights). I'd be happy with either Yakupov or Conacher winning it forsure.

Congrats Jakob Silfverberg on the Calder cup. A standout year leading all rookies with 125 shots, while having the best +/- with a +9 out of the top 3 rookie shooters.

Brendan Gallagher(113, +7) and Jonathan Huberdeau(112 -16) will be runner up.

It was a close race, well done gentlemen. Except for Huberdeau, those were just pity votes because you play in Florida, no one wins with a -16

It'll go to Huberdeau or Saad.

EDIT: Or one of the two Habs rooks.

Simple as this. If Yakupov has MORE goals and MORE points than every other candidate, he has a legit chance of winning. 100% if he has a couple of more points than the next guy. So, he needs a nice game against the Canucks - who are playing for absolutely nothing.

If he is even tied, someone from the Eastern Conference will win it.

Exactly this. He'll probably end up 5-7th in voting overall.

Someone from the Eastern time zone will win it. That's how the NHL works but him and Hall have been our best players the last 12 games.

Oilerland (on Twitter) made this. It makes a compelling argument for Yakupov but unfortunately, he won't get any recognition.

I think Saad or Gallagher will get it unfortunately. Arguably Galchenyuk should get it as he's up there with all of them but has played way less minutes per game. 2 min less than yak or conacher, 4 min less per game than huberdeau or saad. And is the youngest. But you could also argue that its nice to play on a good team and that helps as well. What would Yak have done with Toews?

This year it's much more up in the air but RNH was robbed last year and Hall has emerged as the best player from his Calder year.

East Coast bias.

Those rookies in the East wouldn't have nearly as many points if they had to play the likes of the Blues, Kings, and Wild on a regular basis.

I say the French Canadian wins. Just like St. Louis and Theradore beating Iginla for the Hart. Every single Quebec writer votes with his cultural bias. (and before anyone jumps all over me, I am half French-Canadian, so ****)

not a chance does he win... i'll be shocked if he's even a finalist... a player in the west has to do a LOT better than a player in the east to get the same level of recognition, that's just how it is

look on the bright side... if he doesn't win, we still know he's the better player and has the highest ceiling!

Gallagher deserves it. His impact can't be measured by points alone. He's been the most impact full rookie IMO.

Love Yak...if he wins it great. If not, we save some bonus money and future cap hit

Yak should win, or be a finalist, he won't even get a sniff though.

@OC__8: I think we need to get #Yak4Calder trending. Screw the Eastern rookies, Saad and Brodin. #Oilers

IMO you can't really measure a rookie by corsi... They're all pretty inconsistent in the corsi department

Would be nice if he won but he won't, out of all the rookies though the big thing is that he will be the best player.
