Give the guy some credit, he's a young player with potential who had a sophomore slump. His rookie season was very good.

That said, I wouldn't trade Kelfbom for him as I want to see how he does at the NHL level for a few years first.
His rookie season saw him play with Kovalchuck and Parise, i think he gets way too much credit for that season. In saying that he could certainly end up a #2 center, i'm just not as sure of it as many would be.

I don't think it'd be a stretch for Henrique to be a 20g20a guy.

Gagner is better than Henrique.

And those people preaching Henrique's stellar two-way game need to take a peek at the system he's been playing in. Playing with Ilya definitely has its advantages.

I could absolutely see Hemmer in Jersey though. It's a shame that they really don't have anything we need in his value range.

That's actually a decent top 6. If Lou wanted to, he could probably pull this off.

i hate phanny, but he is a good player, and would improve our d. Saying that though not good enough for 7 overall. Unless t.o 1st is coming back, or something else that is nice, i do not make that deal.

I'd be happy with a prospect coming back. Dunno how high on Jon Merrill the Devils are, but I'd be happy with that return. I'd even eat half of Hemmer's salary.

Henrique's drop in production last year came despite a better shooting percentage and slightly higher shot volume (per game anyway) than his rookie season the year prior. He had 35 assists in 74 games last year playing with Kovalchuk and Parise. This year he was on pace for 9 playing mostly with Clarkson and Elias/Zubrus.

Assuming the Oilers would play him with Hall (and one of Yak/Eberle/Hemsky on the RW), I don't see any reason why 20 goals and 30-35 assists wouldn't be a reasonable benchmark for him if he were an Oiler.

Of course, I don't see New Jersey parting with one of their most promising young forwards for anything short of a major overpayment. Teams simply don't give up players like that freely and MacT would have to be absolutely in love with the player to justify what it would take to get him out of Jersey.

Isn't he their #1 prospect? I would love that return too but I doubt it's reasonable from the Devils POV.

With all this talk about Hemsky and Horcoff being as good as gone, at what point does it become more worth keeping either around if the return isn't there?

MacT did say that he'd be open to the idea for both.

PS - don't know if anyone else posted it but Enroth signed a two-year extension with the Sabres today as well. Money wasn't mentioned at the time.

So does playing when your team has pulled the goalie. It wasn't that long ago that having Kovalchuk on the ice was basically the same thing.

Agents for Vanek, Miller: No talks with Sabres

"Both players have made it clear they are open to a trade. Vanek is not interested in a long-term rebuild in Buffalo."

http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/...th-sabres.html

I want no part of that head case Miller, Vanek would be something I'd entertain but he probably wants to play on a contender.

Vanek is a nice luxury, but with our needs being what they are, adding a $7M+ winger could make an already difficult task even more difficult.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren released the following statement with regards to Danny Briere's contract.

“I met with Danny last week and informed him of our decision to use a compliance buy out on his contract. This was a very difficult decision for us to make as Danny has been a very good player for us over the past six years. Danny came to our organization as a free agent in July of 2007 and has been a tremendous player, person and role model in all aspects and for that we thank him. We wish him continued success and best wishes in any future endeavors.”

Vanek would be the type of player that could put us over the top, this year, it would be like Chicago grabbing Hossa.

the 7th for Vanek.

That's why it's really not that shocking they were such a good PK team.

When the PP team is worried about getting scored on, it makes Henrique's job a little easier.

You take Kovy away from him and see how long it takes to get that 'tweener' label slapped on him. Especially if it's going to cost Klefbom to get him.

Briere buyout doesn't cost a whole lot. Flyers only pay $833,333 a season for next four years. (As compliance, it won't count against cap.)

I don't want Vanek at what he'd likely cost. He's a great player, but he definitely has motivation issues.

For one year of Vanek, not a chance.

Generally speaking I've been saying trade that 7th and it's for a guy you extend at the same time. I just don't see how we can do that for a player that doesn't really bring something we really need.

Condition the trade on a extension. I don't think it will happen. IF it does it will be at the trade deadline next year.

I do think we need a 2nd line LW, but when one of your 2nd line RW is going to be Eberle or Yak you simply can't afford to have a 7mil guy on that left side.
