If true, this has to be the dumbest idea since the glow puck.
They are obviously protecting themselves from further legal issues like the one the Boogey man's loved ones are looking at. I'm surprised they didn't follow the OHL's lead of giving an extra 2 minutes for purposely removing the other guy's bucket during the fight as well as for taking them off before.
Per LeBrun's twitter. Still prending approval from the NHL BoG.
1) Penalize players for removing their helmets when fighting.
2) Penalize players for starting fights while wearing visors.
3) Grandfather in visors for all NHL players.
I'm confused...so does this mean they can't remove their helmets while they are squaring off ready to go anymore??? Or does this just mean that there is to be no helmet removal during the actual fight itself???
Either way, this is ****ing stupid. Who wants to potentially break their knuckles or **** up their hand punching somebody with a helmet on??? Not to mention your knuckles would get messed up pretty fast I would think.
So basically they want to prevent guys from squaring up and taking their helmets off prior to fighting, hoping to prevent injuries that way.
I wonder if they got this idea from watching the AHL, where mandatory visors have made ditching helmets pretty much an after thought when fighting. I'd be curious to see if the AHL has seen an increase in head injuries from this.
The fact that people seem more worried about the fact that their could be less fighting than the health of the players worries me.
Really? We're talking about guys who play a sport that often has serious repercussions for professional's long term health, that's part of why they get paid such obscene amounts of money to play a game. It only seems normal that people would be more focused on the entertainment value of the league than these multi-millionaire's long term health.
