Personally, I want one for 2 consecutive icings to be a delay of game. Shady way to get your players a chance to catch their breath.
How is consecutive defined? How much time needs to pass?

After the first icings faceoff, the violating team throws it back down the ice prior to making it out of their defensive end.

It was only a matter of time until fighting was banned in the NHL.

This is how they do it without specifically saying "Ban Fighting" in order to minimize outcry from the fanbase.

So if they make it just outside the blue line it's not a penalty?

What if they don't get it out but 3 guys already changed and then an errant pass leads to an icing? Is that also a penalty.

What if a missed breakout pass leads to an icing, then the defensive team wins the draw, starts breaking out and throws another breakout pass from *just* inside their blue line. Would that also be a penalty?

If you want to look at giant wastes of time on icing then start handing out delay of game penalties for guys who intentionally get themselves thrown out of the circle just to buy another 10 seconds.

I think it was bound to happen, but I also think there are a lot more important issues to work out than this. It just shows how much they care about the game itself, and their personal agenda.

long as they are out of their defensive zone, it would not be a penalty.

It would not. And would be on the refs to call it if they believe it to be intentional, just like any other penalty

It would be, simply because they are trying to cherry pick and missing their outlet pass twice doesn't mean they should get the freebie pass.

However, the caveat to this is if their opposing team can negate the icing just as they can now. If they can actually make the a play for the puck it wouldn't be an icing.

Isn't it if the 2nd person is thrown out it would be a delay of game penalty? The issue is refs won't ever call it that way. Make them do that and I would concede this whole idea in the first place. The point I am trying to make with this type of penalty is not rewarding teams who received an icing penalty with the chance to allow players a solid 10-20 extra seconds to catch their breath so long as they can get it to squeek out on the boards or past the offensive attacking team.

I would concur. I just brought this up to a coworker who has 3 sons in hockey and he thought the same thing.

Well, it's the icing team's problem if they'd rather ice the puck again, lose the subsequent draw and get burned. Unless that team is absolutely dominating the other on the draw no one ices the puck just to catch a breath in a circumstance like that.

You say that as if helmets stay on by the end of fights. I would be curious to see some statistics on how many helmets were pulled off during fights vs still remaining on by the time the players hit the ice or the fight is over.

I expect to see the new visor-mandated helmets coming with a button that you can press to remove your visor quickly

They can just say they're trying to ban fighting right? Just cut the ********. And this sounds like something the NHLPA should have a say in, IMO.

The pussification of the NHL continues.

This is just an underhanded attempt to eliminate fighting altogether

they just made visors mandatory...grandfathered in. Eventually everybody will wear with cowardly shield

the rule is you can't fight with a visor, but you can take your helmet off

So now if you can't fight with a visor, and can't take your helmet off...guess what. NO FIGHTING!

If one guy takes his helmet off the other does too, so they sit for 7 instead of 5.

I fail to see the point.

They probably sit for 5 and both teams delegate a player to serve the 2 minute minors.

Personally, I think fighting doesn't have it's place in hockey anymore so I'm perfectly fine with this.

I don't think it "wussyfies" the sport, even without fighting, hockey is still one of the most physical/tough sports out there.

Don't care much for fighting personally, but there seems to be lack of logic here.

Everyone should wear a visor
You get a penalty for fighting with said visor
You can't take off your helmet, so you are stuck with the visor, which you have to wear, which goes against the other rule.

So, they should just forgoe their health for the pleasure of the fans? Sorry but that's wrong.

fighting with helmet = penalty
starting a fight with visor = penalty
visors being grandfathered in = no fighting

will they make visors detachable so they can just rip those off before a fight?

If it causes "fans" like you to walk away from the game, then that's just an added bonus.

Agree with others in that they are slowing taking fighting out. What I'm more surprised is that the GMs agree'd to this.
