What sort of contract will Weiss command on the open market? If NYR somehow manage to not buy out B. Richards he might be the #1 center on the market.

Could easily see him getting $6M. Maybe $7M in a bidding war. Under a bigger cap and with backdiving deals a thing of the past, a lot of mid-tier players are going to get PAID - not even saying he's necessarily "worth" that. Ville Leino got $4.5M per and makes $12M in his first year. Weiss is the best and only legitimate 1st line option on the market. Toronto, Chicago, and Calgary will be lining up for his services.

the rangers won't buy out Richards this season but I think there is a good chance they do it next season when there is potential for guys like Thornton, Datsyuk and Malkin to potentially hit UFA (the last guy on that list better not lol). As for Weiss he could be the #1C in free agency but after his terrible season this year im expecting him to get somewhere between $4.5M-$5M a season, maybe even less.

Toronto will inquire, as they should. He's an upgrade on any of our C's right now save for Nazem Kadri.

I'll be more than comfortable going next year with C depth of Weiss, Kadri and Grabovski.

Bozak will not be re-signed then.

I dont see Weiss getting more then $4.5 Mil a year on a 4 or 5 year deal, That being said I would still love for the Red Wings to go after him, I think Ken Holland was heavilly pursuing Weiss before his Wrist Injury. It's believed that Weiss would waive his NTC only for Toronto and Detroit and that he would like to play close to home something like what Corey Perry supposingly wants also.

I was thinking 4.5-5.0M is probably decent value for him (ignoring inflation of weak FA class). Ignoring this weak year he's a 50 point player and has had a pretty weak supporting cast. He probably maxes out at 65-70 points per year (with allstar wingers).

Sorry but it will be a cold day In Hell before Datsyuk becomes an UFA He either Resigns with Detroit or he Retires from the NHL and go's back home to Mother Russia to play out what few years he has left In the KHL.

If he chases the money.

4 years or more he'll get 5 to 5.5 per year

3 years or less and he's looking at 5.5 to 6.5 per year.

The only way he would get 6 or 7 mil would be for a 1 year contract. Long term (3 or more) 4.5 mil tops.

I just used him as an example, I don't think Datsyuk will ever leave Detroit for another NHL team.

$5 million to a team that wants to contend for a while and needs a #1-ish center. I can see Phoenix.

Sorry I know you did, Just saying. For one thing Datsyuk has the final say on where he goes and he has already said that he wont play for another team other then Detroit

He could pretty much sign with half the teams in the league and slot into their top 2 spots. Just depends on who resigns their ufa's and with his injury his rights dont mean much to anyone.

I think he would be a good fit in T.O... Hes another 1B center playmaker, which is what Tim Connolly was when we went after him, but he was more of a 2A at the time...

I would say around 5 mil would be the contract he deserves after the poor start... The difference between Weiss and Connolly is that Weiss is a warrior and not afraid of corners like Connolly, also a better skater.

I would say if we get Weiss, we would resign Bozak as the 3rd line center and try and trade Grabo on the draft floor for a pick. Im thinking we could get a 15-25 range pick for Grabo. There will surely be a team who needs a center and isnt confident in there chances in the Weiss sweeps, Grabo could possibly be better then Weiss to a certain number of teams who may want speed and defence over playmaking.

If Dallas loses Roy, Weiss would be a good option for our #2 C spot.

So a team is going to give up a first for Grabo (who makes more than what you said you would sign Weiss for) instead of just signing Weiss for free who does that make sense?

God I hope so. But I get the same feeling as well.

Maybe its because I think Calgary will pay him like a #1 center.

He sure didn't sound like he wanted to stay on that nhl.com interview.

Probably Leafs or Sens.

Grabo got 5.5 for 5, I could see Weiss in the same ballpark pretty easily, injury or not.
