NHLPA Special Assistant to the Executive Director Mathieu Schneider says all competition committee items forwarded from earlier this month have been approved by the league's general managers.

Hybrid icing, mandatory visors, shallower nets and video review on four-minute highsticking penalties will all be introduced next season, pending approval from the NHL's board of governors.

2 minutes for removing helmet before a fight
mandatory visors....

isn't there an existing penalty for fighting with a visor on?

Wonder if you still get the instigator that comes with the fight. Should be curious to see how that is interpreted.

Say goodbye to fighting boys.. Fighting will be done within the next 5-10 years if they fight with a helmet. Makes no sense really as now they will have broken fingers/hands. And I thought taking your helmet off was an act of respect!

NHL executive vice president and director of hockey operations Colin Campbell says GMs also agree to implement a two-minute penalty for fighters who remove their helmets before a fight. So it would be a five-minute penalty for fighting, plus two more minutes for the helmet violation. The new penalty is pending Board of Governors approval.
So, I guess "instigating" a fight with visor is no longer an extra 12 PIMS (2+10)? Need more explanation.

Sounds like they are getting rid of that extra instigator-with-visor penalty.

But replacing with removing of helmet = PIM.

(Not to say that an opponent won't rip it off )

That's what they do in junior hockey. They each take each others helmets off.

There was only a previous penalty for fighting with visor on if you instigated a fight.

With the mandatory visors, they're removing that extra penalty. ( I believe there's still an instigator penalty, just not the extra for the visor anymore.)

Hopefully the meeting leaves Boston and takes Daugavins with it.
