If you have a good seat, the game is fine. The problem is you are going to have to pay $$$ for a good seat, since there are so few of them.

It seems like it's either hit or miss. The good seats are great, and the bad seats are terribad.

How tall/wide are you? Seats were pretty adequate for me, and I am 5 10.

Walk space is pretty narrow I agree, but consider this fact, land in NYC cost fortunes.
I'm shorter than you and I had absolutely no room. I had no room to move my feet while sitting down and if I move my head back a drop, I will get kneed in the head.

And people should care how the arena looks like. If no one cared what it looked like, how come new arenas are usually beautiful? What's the point of making them so nice if we shouldn't care how it looks?

I personally don't care how the arena looks on the outside. But that's just me.

I'm not talking about the outside. The inside of the arena (not the concessions, the actual bowl) is ugly.

Well I had no issues with the leg room.

And define beautiful.

Maybe some of the ugliness I was referring to is only for hockey, because it's not visible in the 3D seating chart I found for the Nets. The ceiling looked pretty bad, since the catwalk looked pretty low.

The other thing was the weird block-shaped bowl instead of it being round. Like I said before, you can be sitting next to someone who's seat is on a different angle. If you have that seat (like my dad did), your knees will be touching with someone else's.

Are there any pictures of the concourse?

Like where instead of the bowl being round, there are a bunch of angles.

I don't have any pictures of the concourse, but there are probably some online.

This is round:

This is "block shaped":

Oh! It's an elongated octagon. But I can see what you're saying about knees hitting each other. Like when section 4 and section 6 meet.

So lets go extreme and say there are only 13000 "good view" seats. The Islanders still make more money than they would at NVMC due to lux suits. More income means more money spent on the product. I'll take that tradeoff 100 times out of 100.

Besides the fact that, if I'm going to a game, I'm going to damn well make sure I get one of those unobstructed seats. If you willingly buy an obstructed view seat that's your problem.

I have to say as an Islander fan, I could care less what a Devil fan, Ranger fan etc thinks of the new arena. As a fan from another team, you naturally do not care about the finances of the Islanders. You're going to a visiting arena to watch your team play. You could care less that there are 10X the lux suits in Barclays, or that this opens up much broader corporate sponsorship possibilities, of gives the Islanders more exposure through the media. It's completely understandable that you wouldn't.... but these are the things that make a team money, and when a team makes money, they spend more money on the product. I'm amused that on the BoH board of all places, this seems to escape everyone.

So, for all the Islander fans that are bashing the building.... please be mindful of this tradeoff. For everyone else? Go scratch.

NY Times: mixed reviews on Brooklyn for hockey.

Coaches, players loved it.

Fans not so much - sight lines for one.

My only complaint from last night BTW, was that the large interior seemed to swallow up any chants. My rough estimate is that there were 33 percent Islander fans (going by jerseys), 33 percent Devils/Ranger fans (going by jerseys) and 33 percent curious Brooklynites (going by fedoras) so that very well might be the reason.

Here's my photos from the game. Still not sure how I feel. The center 200 sections the upper rows feel like they're miles away from the ice. If you don't mind heights and everything its fine. Just be smart and don't buy an obstructed seat.

Here's a video I shot from where I sat.

Looking at the ticket prices for a PRESEASON GAME, its no surprise they couldnt sell out in the good section. Again its PRESEASON GAME, they rarely ever sell out, and not all good seats were sold. There will be 15000+ good seats.

No, not everyone Jester. Its early days, and so long as Islanders fans embrace the building then who cares what anyone else thinks? With the increased revenues through suite sales and lets say there are only 12,000 so called "excellent" seats price points will be such that in the end the franchise is far better off. Smaller sure, but more exclusive, higher-end. Locations excellent, convenient via public transit, got a lot going for it. See how they fair over the long-term.

Good for you, but Islander fans mostly hate it as well, so we share the same opinions.

I think part of the mixed review is bitter Isles fans who doesnt want the team to leave LI.

Absolute false. Yes there are quite a bit Isles fans who hated it, but a lot of Isles embraced Brooklyn.

You arent an Isles fan, dont speak for all of us.

I'd say it's more like they have mixed reviews about it. I stand by what I said though.... the Islanders franchise is much healthier for this move. With that comes more spending on the product.

Because of this, I feel that those fans that don't like it will come around. They may never like the fact that there are less seats that have a good view, and may never like the fact that tickets are going to be closer to the $72 avg at MSG than the current $49 at NVMC (and more so for the good seats).

But the food/amenities, public transportation, exposure, surrounding area and ultimately the better product on the ice (due to more spending) will all offset this. JMHO
