Would you rather have your team win 1 Stanley Cup or your country win 3 Olympic gold medals?

Depends on what country you're from and how much success your NHL favorite team has had in recent memory.

Voted Stanley cup. I've seen my country win 3 Golds already, but wasn't alive for my teams 1 cup win

Cup. Olympics just hasn't been a part of my hockey culture. Something really extreme and historic like 6 Gold Medals might give me pause for thought, but it would have to be something unthinkably rare like that to put it on the same level as a Cup.

EDIT: I wrote that thinking of it as my accomplishment as a player. Re-reading, since it's AS A FAN... well, it's not even that close, I would take 1 Cup over 100 Gold Medals, and I've seen my team win a few Cups already. I'd rather my team win another Cup than my country ever win a medal of any kind at any level in any international competition.

3 golds.

I put the Cup ahead of the gold, but not so much that 1 > 3. Maybe 1 > 2 but not 3.

For Canadian fans I can understand taking the Cup, but for the US, we don't even have 3 golds.

I've seen Canada win every big international tournament there is. Olympics twice, World Cup in 2004, a couple WHCs, and a bunch of WJCs. The god damned Spengler Cup.

I want to see the Flames win the Cup now.

Canada is expected to win, and usually does.
Canucks have never win, and possibly level will in my life time.

The cup.

North america appreciates cups more, rest of the world appreciates olympics more. That's the outcome of most of these polls.

My team could've won ten consecutive Cups, and I'd be rooting for an eleventh more than any number of Olympic golds.

Stanley Cup, by far.

I've seen one Cup win, and 3 gold medals, and the Cup win was exponentially more exciting for me. And that was BEFORE the three gold medals, sadly enough, so it's been a long fruitless wait for another one.

If I was a player Olympic gold. Seriously the Olympics IMO is a different animal, your name will be engraved in your countries legacy. As a fan, Cup please.

Stanley Cup. I don't know what it is. Theirs just something about the Stanley cup that makes you forget about your country. I think its the long season battle with your teammates and long postseason. Just grueling.

I don't think my country will ever win gold again, so Stanley Cup for me.

3 Golds would be nice especially since I'm an American and you play what...a maximum of 4 Olympics? That's some nice legacy...this question isn't as cookie cutter as people might think, but I still go with cup regardless.

Et tu, Olly?

Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win in the world. And is the most important to its players and satisfying trophy in all of sports, competitions (really anything where one person is going up against someone else competing) to win. Nothing can beat the Stanley Cup.

In 2001 when Colorado won it... and I had experienced all the games and moments that came along with that amazing season and playoffs... it was so satisfying even just as a fan, when classy Joe handed the cup to Bourque and the most famous quote by Gary Thorne, "and after 22 years...RAYMOND BOURQUE!". Man you couldn't write a better moment than that...

I realize that miracle on ice was an amazing story in itself and probably the most amazing sports story ever. But still each and every season there is the potential for an amazing moment like the one with Bourque. I don't know if it's because it only occurs once every four years or if it's because the tournament the Olympics enacts isn't nearly as rigorous as the nhl playoffs are.

Either way, any major hockey fan of a specific team pours sooo much into this game each and every season that when they win the Stanley Cup there's just nothing sports wise that could stand up to that feeling.

I've seen the Ducks win the cup. Haven't seen Finland win the gold. Got to go with the gold. Altough, nothing beats the entertainment value of stanley cup playoffs.

If Canada wins the 2018 olympics, I wonder if Shea Weber would switch his gold medals for one Stanley Cup ring. I would but im no hockey player so who knows.
