Carolina "some players who were previously untouchable may no longer be untouchable"

per Elliotte Friedman
Quote:
1. Another note about the Hurricanes. Word is that "some players who were previously untouchable may no longer be untouchable," according to one source. Apparently, this does not include anyone with the last name Staal. It is going to be a wild summer across the NHL.
The only names that really make sense here are Jeff Skinner, Cam Ward and/or Ryan Murphy. I can't imagine anyone else on Carolina was ever referred to as "untouchable".

They've been underachieving for awhile now. Agree it is time for a shakeup. Not a fan of Ward, Skinner is good but injuries are a concern there. Those are the guys I'd look at moving.

I'd have Justin Faulk untouchable long before Ryan Murphy.

"SKINNER!!!"

We need at least one more guy on the Jets with great puck handling skills (our only one, Burmistrov may be on his way out - and he struggles to finish)

Should be an interesting summer.

That's another possibility, I'd forgotten, but would Carolina really move him?!

Sounds like Carolina has untouchable lists that rival HF Boards poster's...

Skinner to San Jose for?

The Sharks are already a large team so it wouldn't hurt to add a smaller player. And they badly need a sniper.

Carolina needs a shutdown D, maybe something around Vlasic?

Skinner to Ottawa would be...ridiculous. Not sure what Carolina would want from us though.

Ryan Murphy qualified as untouchable?

I know it's doubtful because of the realignment next season.

But what would both sides think of an Adam Larsson/Jeff Skinner swap?

There aren't many 1-for-1 Larsson swaps I would consider, but this intrigues me.

The term "Untouchable" should only be applied to Murphy if one is referring to his passes that never connected.

Ryan Murphy seems too much like a MAB.

Would love Skinner or Ward though. Or one of the Staals?

Murphy untouchable? not even close IMO.

About the only guys I previously would have thought of as "untouchable" in order of untouchableness.

E. Staal
J. Staal
C. Ward
J. Faulk
J. Skinner
E. Semin (only because they just signed him to a long term deal so why move him now).

Losing anyone in the top 4 really doesn't help the Canes at all so can't see them moving one of them. Some Canes fans have been throwing Skinner's name around in trade proposals, but I don't see it also as the kid is only 21.

Unless Rutherford previously counted guys like Gleason and Ruutu as untouchable, I guess I don't see how moving one of the players above actually helps the team.

No way. Faulk is absolutely untouchable. I'd guess Carolina's untouchable list is Eric, Jordan, and Faulk, with Semin probably not going anywhere regardless.

I would love Skinner, but Vlasic holds this team's defense together. He completely neutralizes opposing top forwards while starting quite often in the defensive zone, leads the PK, etc. I feel confident that if you removed Vlasic from the Sharks D, we would be the worst defensive team in the league.

Sounds like Skinner.

Also Gleason? IIRC, they gave him some degree of no trade clause.

It would require a lot. He was by far the Canes best defenseman and went up against top competition regularly at the age of 20. I can't see a deal where it makes sense moving Faulk.

This.

The + could be a guy like Pyatt or Dorsett if Canes are interested.
