Dustin Penner Signing in Montreal

I was wondering if he would be a good fit for Montreal's third line for next season.

I think he will be getting a decrease in salary on the market IMO. But he will want to probably get a longer deal like 3 yrs or so.

Now before everyone goes on about his previous work ethic before. I found the way he played near the end of the season and his play in the playoffs was great. Strong forecheck, lots of hitting, puck control, and going to the net.

I wonder if he would step away from his lazy critics comments or do most think he will go back to playing lazy after he gets a mid term contract over say 3yrs.

I think Galchenyuk Eller Penner, could be a good line if he plays like how he did in the playoffs.

Depending on the cost and term, I'd give him a shot. Still, I'd imagine he'd take a real liking to some Montreal Poutine.

Montreal needs players with size and who use it both at protecting the puck and punishing the players.

He's a LW, no ? If so he falls down to the 3rd line.

IMO he'd be pretty interchangeable with Bourque, and I get the feeling we haven't heard the last of Bourque's injury troubles. Galchenyuk seems at least as comfortable at RW as LW. I think Penner would help the Habs.

If we're able to sign him to a contract quite similar to the one of Prust, why not? Maybe 2-3y/$2-2.5m.

He's an inferior version of AK46 who floats even more during the regular season. He'd be booed out of town before the playoffs even come around.

Love Penner's size, but the rest that comes with him, not so much.

That is just what The Habs need.....bringing Penner to the Poutine capital of the world.

And you guys thought he was fat and lazy before......

Not at ALL the problem. He's actually a good skater for being a monster. And he's also ridiculously strong. Issue is ****ing effort. Half the games, he just stands still. Makes blind passes or won't move his feet and it causes turnovers. If he skates hard and hits, he's a physical beast and a very good player. But you don't see that often in the regular season and it didn't translate to many points this offseason, though it wasn't really a lack of effort.

Lack of effort....he'd be lynched. Price puts the work in every day and he gets booed...so guess what would happen to him

I don't think he would work out in Montreal. Sure he has size but he would likely be in Therrien's doghouse all the time.

Penner is 100% for sure worth the gamble on a short term deal.

On a 1 year deal worth south of 3 millions without any no movement clause....

only way the habs sign him!

I could see a Penner-DD-Bourque line working even if bourque is a lefty...

He could also be a very good injury replacement on the habs top 6. I am a fan of loading up on FA to avoid losing pick on deadline deals..

Even if the Habs wanted Penner, I don't think he'd sign there because of:

1) Taxes
2) Scrutiny (Penner-cakes)

I'll be shocked if Penner signs for any team not located along the sun belt again.
