Backstrom could sign back for 3.5 million and Minnesota would be fine. We could also look at a guy like Fleury and dump some cap space.

BTW here's an updated version of our roster (minus RFA and UFA) and cap space:

Parise (7.538) - Koivu (6.75) - Pominville (5.3)
Zucker (.833) - Coyle (.975) - Setoguchi (3.0)
Mitchell (1.9) - Brodziak (2.83) - Heatley (7.5)
Veilleux (.600) - Konopka (.925) - Rupp (1.5)
= 39.651

Suter (7.538) - Brodin (1.44)
Gilbert (4.00) - Scandella (1.025)
Prosser (.825) - Stoner (1.050)

= 15.878

Harding (1.9)

= 1.9

Other:
Parrish (.928)

= .928

Total = 58.357
Cap Space = 64.3
Cap Room = 5.943

That's what Minnesota is looking at. Defense is a bit shaky but still promising.

Like I said though- Matt Read is a fine young player. But he wouldn't have changed the series at all (an assumption, of course, but it's a fair one IMO).
Dustin brown was relegated to the 3rd line Thats how bad he was .

In Brown's defense he was playing with a bad PCL. Before the injury he was still terrrible in the playoffs so I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Yeah Kings were really beaten up, i guess thats the price you pay for two long postseasons runs back to back.

They had a terrific season, despite not having two of the top D all year and QUick fighting the back surgery aftereffects until April. Finished top 10 in scoring, goals allowed, PK and PP.
What killed them was the Two thirds of the top line appearing on milk cartons and a very very tough series against the Blues. Six games of full throttle skating and every player finishing checks to the tune of 480 hits. One St Louis reporter said after the Kings won the series that he found it hard to believe the Kings would go deep because they had 'way too many injured bodies in the lockeroom' Then they had to play a very talented SHarks team , another physical series. Wasn't many healthy bodies in that grouip that met the Hawks.

But Lombardi has put together a very good team that has an excellent core group and all the right ingredients (top goalie, defense and a solid group of skilled top 6 two way forwards).
They need speed and skill on LW and he'll take care of that and cut the dead wood, bring up some of the talented kids they've drafted.

Seruiously! One smothers the puck, the other has it bounce off his pads. People get so wrapped up in stats they forget to use their eyes!

Pathetic.
You think Matt Read and Matt Frattin are "arguably" in the same place right now, and you want *HIM* to get his homer glasses off?

agreed. but I think LA wants more control of the player and Frattin comes out on top cause of his RFA status in 2014. and he does have top 6 potential like Read who is steps ahead in development when compared to Frattin, but his UFA status in 2014 might be unsettling for lombardi.

i also think lombardi likes Frattin cause he played in North Dakota. I remember a Kings fan saying one of their prospects went there and they must have seen Frattin play there as well and must have been impressed.

unless philly adds a second rounder to matt read, i see frattin and a second going for bernier. doubt our first is moved.

Who cares. We all know if Bernier ends up with the Flyers in a few years will get traded again and then win the Vezina.

I'd argue that with the contracts the Wild have, they need the cost controlled play that youngsters like Granlund, Brodin, Zucker, Coyle, etc. will give them over the long term much more than they need a starting goaltender. Especially given what they have in their system.

I think i said if they had read they would have had a better shot than had they not had read.

Frattin and 21 is an insult imo. and does not address any of the needs for the Kings. The kings need a top 6 winger right now. Not an aging prospect and a pick.

I don't think Read is that much better than Frattin. Frattin looked better than he ever has earlier this season, he scored something like 7 goals and 3 assists in 10 games before he got injured. Frattin is also 2 years younger.

As a long time WCHA fan, I'd take Frattin over Read without hesitation.

Granted, I'm a UND alum. But still...

Phi: Either Couturier or Schenn or Read + #11 for JB + 2nd

I have to say that's an awesome Christmas list; unfortunately any GM who gives that much in a buyers market for netminders is begging to lose his job.

From the Wild perspective that is way too much to give. It would completely hamstring the organization for years considering Zucker and Coyle are likely to be forwards from their top two lines for the next 5 or 6 years.

Thanks, but no thanks.....I would rather see the Wild sign a veteran #1 and wait for Gustafson or Kuemper to earn the job in the next year or two.

hahaha...that's a funny one. Never heard that before

And as a Leafs fan, should you be saying anything on a day in which Rask is playing for the Stanley Cup. And Seguin. And more that I need not get into.

Realistically, neither Toronto or Philly NEED Bernier. But I can't wait until the Finals are over so we can start seeing some trades and movement!

Read and Frattin are very similar players, to say one is a lot better than the other is nonsense.
