Oh for sure it was a horrible pick, but worst in memory seems a bit much no?

It's not a terrible contract. 5 years eh..

But, what I don't understand is why sign him? I'm curious to see what they're going to do the rest of the offseason.

Flyers are a joke.

Letang is overrated. Very good offensive d-man but atrocious in his own end.

The flyers have 5 centers so I guess one of the kids is getting traded?

It's just a weird deal, it will stick with them like Pronger's. He isn't a bad player, but he isn't what he once was and they sign him till he is 37. Kind of screams that they are going to trade one of the kids, and I wouldn't be surprised if they flipped off the goal and their defense and trade a kid for a winger instead.

Lecavalier alone (not considering the other moves they'll have to make now) is a great signing but once again, the Flyers do everything in ways that don't make sense.

They get younger one summer, then get older the next. They'll get positions they need with the young guys they trade away, but still...don't understand them.

Lecavalier has one hell of an agent. That dude is hauling in some serious coin. Can't wait to watch him play goal for the Flyers this year.

They are guaranteed to lose one of their kids next season.

Edit - It gets better... He has a full NMC. LOL. They are stuck with him till he is 37, no matter what.

When you draft a guy over a bunch of future stars and a year later you have essentially given up on him as a prospect it certainly has to be considered one of the worst picks of recent memory. Also consider the Kings had two #1 picks that year, and went with three defenseman with the top 32 picks, so they were heavily scouting defenseman. The Kings hit two home runs so it makes the Teubert disaster even more amazing, because the Kings usually scout well. I will just say it was probably the Kings drafting based on a perceived need rather than taking the BPA, it's the only thing I can think of.

They're also going to have to sign Giroux next summer. I imagine that will cost 8m or more. Then a goaltender and replace the defensemen who leave after this season...

I think what annoys me more than anything is what geniuses these guys think they are. Look, Lecavalier is fine, he's a solid veteran player. But he isn't needed on the Flyers. What about defense? Oh wait, I forgot. They have Streit now, their defense is great!

Hell, I'd take Lecavalier for 4.5M/5yrs. Not on this team obviously but still... That's a good deal for a top 6 center with size, skill and a ring. People talk like he's done but he's still a good player.

It's a curious fit in Philly though... They really have to address their D and add another proven goalie. They're gonna have to make some trades which adding a solid top 6 player like Vinny for free might allow them to do.

Pretty much!

I think I'm gonna mosey on over and people-watch at the Philly boards. I would say it probably is super annoying being a Philly fan, but damned if it aint entertaining!

I actually think it's a good signing, albeit a little long, but NOT needed in Philly. I guess they'll try to win 6-5 every night...

Would Philly be willing to trade one of the kids? Couturier/Schenn? Now that they got Lecavalier...

Maybe for Williams and sign a UFA like Horton to cover the loss....

Something around Grossmann? If Mitchell/Scuderi don't make it back with Ellerby not qualified...

Hmmm seems like LA Phi rumors about talks a few days ago may not be so far fetched.

Scuds is getting 4m or more. Lewis probably getting a bump to 1m. There goes the space.

Lombardi basically said exactly that ON draft day when asked about it. Something along the lines of with Teubert we went out and got the one quality that Doughty doesn't have. So yeah that was entirely the thought.

Worst draft pick in recent memory? Hardly... A.J. Thelen? Riku Helenius? Heck Lauri Tukonen is probably worse... Hugh Jessiman? Filiatov? Kyle Beach? Heck, Chet Pickard isn't even an ECHL goalie and he was taken 18th in the SAME draft... No way is Teubert worse a worse pick than at least half those guys.
