no no, I agree. I'm just saying, if we're talking hypotheticals, I would value the Toronto trade more than the Anaheim trade, for example. Because I feel like it at least address the defense moving forward while giving you legitimate depth at multiple areas.

(also gives you the option to dump MAF)

We're spending $7 million on goaltending. Paul Martin and Brooks Orpik combine for just under $9 million. Niskanen makes over $2 million for a third-pairing rearguard.

I don't think investing in non-forwards has been neglected at all. Especially when compared to the winger situation.

with JVR and Gardiner, I agree.

It's no fun to be realistic this time of the year. Imagine Crosby or Malkins point totals in our heads? I'm at triple digits PER GAME!!!

I think its perfectly realistic to pay another forward if we aren't going to be paying Letang 7M on D. Next year would be tough though since it would end up being a higher hit than Letang for the 1 year.

Eberle would be great and all, but we'd have to get really creative with cap space for next year if we got him back in the trade. With Edmonton we'd be better off with Yakupov because he costs a little more than half the price of Eberle (for now anyways)

7M or less I'm fine with, it's when it's 7.5 to 8 per when I'm shaking my head, the guys not a Weber IMO, he's more a Karlsson with less offense. 6.5-7M is what is realistic for Letang.

Well if we're acquiring a guy like Eberle, it means Shero has found his smart pills. Which means we might do the right thing with Fleury, or at the very least ship out Glass and Niskanen.

I think it only gets creative/complicated if we continue to be really dumb.

If we move Fleury we're fine, but even if we move Niskanen and Glass it's still an iffy situation.

Just a tad IMO but he's a faster skater. It's pretty close between the 2 of them. Hope rumor was right of 6.5 for 8 years.

Yeah $6.5 million for eight years and I don't think we're having these trade discussions. Even with a full NMC I'd do that for a guy like Letang.

But I don't think that's what we're talking about here.

Dreger said that some people close to the Penguins/Letang think that if we offer him 6.5m for 8 years he takes it.

We can only hope! Our D looks bright in the coming years, if its anchored by Letang the it's even better. Within 5 years cap should be 80M or a little more, Letang looks like a steal at that time.
