Chris Stewart (OTT/STL)

What would St. Louis be looking for from Ottawa to grab Stewart?

Much better, maybe not. He's a very different kind of good. With Kyle Turris, you're getting a player who is good night in night out, and contributes whether he's scoring or not. Stewart is not that player, but he is able to create offense on his own much moreso than Turris.

On that note, however, I think Z is a more realistic trade chip than Turris for just those reasons (if we're dealing for Stewart. If we were dealing for Backes, on the other hand... )

Is Da Costa really a top-6 guy?

Not yet, he has all the ability though. When he was up with us, he was our 2nd most offensively dangerous fwd besides Spezza, and has some similar ability. He's a gritty player too. If he comes into his own, I suppose he could be similar to Ribeiro though not quite as soft. I see him becoming a 55 pt playmaking C who can QB a PP, if he's put into the right situation. He'd be nothing more than a smaller piece in a trade for Stewart, though.

I think StL would ask for Zibanejad, but I think Ottawa is better off declining in that case. Stewart is a good player, but I don't think he's got as much value as his goal totals would indicate. He's super streaky and has had his attitude called into question more than a few times.

It has? That hasn't been the case in St. Louis.

Hrm...I'm thinking a little bigger if we're talking Zibanejad.

What would Ottawa have to add to Zibanejad for a package of Stewart + Shattenkirk?

Zibanejad + Cowen + ??

Stewart is too inconsistant for me to give up a talent like Zibby add to the fact that he disappears come playoff time.

maybe i am willing to give up other prospects like Stone or Peumpel but don't think Zibby

Maybe I missed something?

Stewart is one of the best leaders on the blues, super vocal, super nice guy. His charisma is positive towards any team he is on.

Doesnt really work for Ottawa. Future of Jason Spezza in Ottawa is still uncertain. Might need both Turris and Zibanejad.

I am not in favour of trading any roster players (Turris, Cowen) or any top prospects (Zib) for an RFA. Ottawa takes on the risk by not getting a player back that is under contract.

If it was a sign-and-trade, it might be good value wise but as others have pointed out Ottawa can't really afford to trade any centres. I'd rather see if Stewart could be had for picks, but my guess is St. Louis re-signs him as he really looked like a solid top forward this past season.

He will be a UFA in couple of years. There is no guarantee he stays in Ottawa. That much is certain.

There isn't any concern with re-signing him. You would most likely be allowed to work out an extension beforehand, same way you did with Bishop before we traded him to you.

I like Stewart a lot, but I'd move him for the right piece

Tarasenko is worth more than Zibanejad. Only reason Blues fans were considering that is because we are that desperate for a center.
