Tired of people acting like Steve MacIntyre is the solution to any of this team's problems.

Problem I have with this is that the enforcer isn't going to be playing come playoff time anyways, so what's the point?

Lucic types? There's only one in the NHL right now. Good luck with that. Everybody wants one. Everybody. Everybody drafts 2-3 players every draft and hope they become Lucic one day. They don't come along very often. Think Halley's Comet.
Yah I know they don't. Neither do Dustin Brown types. But this year's draft being what it is, I figure there might be a couple big horses in that group with some mean and skill. Completely open to someone telling me I'm wrong though, if anyone familiar with the first 100 prospects or so doesn't see any close comparison. Remember when Lucic was drafted, no one knew he'd become the Lucic he is today necessarily.

Any good team is going to be hated to the 10th degree so who cares what other teams think.

IMO the Pens need a culture change and quick. They have gotten way to roller hockey for my liking. Look at Matt Cooke. He needed to be curbed not have his balls clipped.

Cal Clutterbuck would look great on this team but the cap won`t cooperate.

Clutterbuck I see as a replacement for Kennedy. Swapping speed for mean, while not losing any production on average. But he's not that big generally (about 6' I think but more of a tree trunk than Kennedy). Still he's the kind of guy that could make likfe unpleasant for the opposition in the playoffs.

You're right. He's not the solution to any of this team's problems. He's the solution to ALL of them. Bylsma's biggest lineup mistake was not putting him on the first line.

I mean, do we really think toughness is why we lost against the Bs? I thought we outhit them and played a much more physical game. It was our lack of offense that killed us.

We don't need enforcers, we need pests.

Cooke and Morrow didn't work that well for us against Boston. I think we need both, a good mix of both.

Cookie can stay and hopefully find someone that can fight but also play some hockey

Cooke hasn't been a pest for a few years now. If he can find a balance between Criminal Cooke days and his current self then he'd be great to keep, otherwise let him go.

And I have never once considered Morrow a pest.

Yeah that's what this team was missing. A guy that played 2 minutes a night, that nobody wanted to fight, is a gigantic liability on the ice, and is too slow to actually check anybody. I'm sure that would have been the deciding factor in winning that Boston series.

I'm sure he could have really turned that tide with a big staged fight.

I seriously wonder how some people can manage to tie their shoes in the morning.

There was talk a few months back that Laraque wanted a tryout in September for 2013-14. But I haven't heard much since.

Cooke is Cooke and him being on the ice he disturbs the other teams

As for Morrow it was more of his presence in front of the net but besides a few games here and there he was very disappointing

This team needs someone that when Crosby gets punched in the face gets pissed off enough to do something about it.

Just being on the ice isn't enough. We need guys who get under the opponents skin with what they do on the ice.

And Morrow could never get in front of the net because he wasn't on a line that could even get in the offensive zone

No, the teem needed to make Boston pay by scoring on it's PP. That's the only way to make a team stay in line. Again, nobody is scared of fighters in today's NHL. If the other team feels that playing over the line against Sid/Geno is the best way to beat Pittsburgh, they'll keep doing it regardless of who's in our lineup.

I know people like hockey fights and, to some extent, I do too. But anyone that's trying to prove they hold any value outside of entertainment is fighting a losing battle.

When I read stuff like this as "analysis" of what happened, it really makes me question how well one understands the game of hockey in this era and what actually went wrong out there.

Had not one damn thing to do with intimidating the other team with a fighter. Not one.
i think you're overestimating the impact that MacIntyre would have by quite a bit. As bad as he is, one forth liner can really only be responsible for a couple of wins/losses throughout at 82 game season.

Honestly, the difference between having him on the ice for 5 minutes and Glass out there for 8 is probably negligible.

Not saying we should play MacIntyre at all, I just mean it really doesnt matter and if he is in the line-up there is clearly some other motivating factor besides simply winning the game

There was a proposal on the main board- TK's rights to the Rags for Brandon Mashinter's rights, which I would take in a second. Mashinter might not be an "enforcer," but he can definitely fight. He's been a really effective player in the AHL, he's huge, he's young, and he hasn't gotten much of a chance in the NHL yet. I'd like to see if he could fit here.

Also- I miss Mike Rupp. Not the Mike Rupp the Rags signed. The Mike Rupp who was a monster in our bottom six.
