Let's assume that MacKinnon will be taken first.....which defensman will the Avs takes with choice No 32?

Who are we to say they won't take a forward if that is the BPA, perhaps one will fall and be too hard to pass up. On this list though, I give a slight edge to Hagg.

I would want Morrissey and then Hägg. But I see them gone before that pick.

Would love these defensemen, in this order:

Morrissey
Hagg
Morin
Theodore
Heatherington
McCoshen

Of course, if a forward like Rychel, or Hartman are available I'd like them to be honest. If Petan is there I wouldn't mind taking the gamble on him, he may be a Top-5 talent but is undersized.

I do believe Roy and Sakic are trying to make Seth drop for a reason...I just don't think he's going to make it all the way back to us in the 2nd round.

It's almost impossible to predict who might be there when we're on the clock, there's about 30 guys who could slide up and down in the 15-45 range quite easily, I mean Button had Lazar at #32 in his mock draft for May or July and it would be downright amazing if he fell there.

Some people are predicting that Michael McCarron will go in the first.

He is RW 6'5 229, might play for the Windsor Spifires next year (They gave a lot to acquire his rights so it means they are extremelly high on him and they will battle hard to convince him to come to Windsor)

2011-12 U.S. National Development Team USHL 35 3 14 17 112 -9 1 0 1 1 2
2012-13 U.S. National Development Team USHL 19 5 5 10 84 1

Kind of liked the tools he showed at U-18s.

But that's it, tools. He would be project but possibly worth the shot.

Trade up to around the number 20 spot if possibly if Pulock is available. Rated best shot in this draft by the scouts. Projected to go anywhere from 10-30 depending which scout you talk to.

Trade our 2nd this year and a decent + should move us up.

A bit on Morin.

Corey Pronman, Hockey Prospectus:

Quote:
Morin had a fine draft season, and while he still needs to work on a few areas of his game, he is progressing in the right direction. His main asset is his physical gifts, as he is 6'6", 200-pounds, while still remaining mobile. That combination is unique, and it makes him a desirable asset. He is pretty coordinated with his feet for such a big man, as he has a technically sound stride, and the ability to move up ice well. He will use his size well to rub off checks and deliver nice hits, although he certainly still has room to fill out...His decision-making is his main area of concern, as he can lose his man in own end, as well as make the odd bad giveaway.
Bill Melzer, HockeyBuzz:

Quote:
Morin is a rawhide-tough defensive defenseman whose upside some like Button have likened to a less hyped version of Zadorov or even current Flyers blueliner Luke Schenn. The offensive upside is modest at best but he is very aggressive and physical with a 6-foot-6 frame to back it up.
Sportsnet:

Quote:
Morin has such raw potential that there is no real consensus ranking among the scouting community. His skating ability at his size is an asset NHL teams will surely covet. He can move the puck well with an outlet pass and shows enough poise with the puck on his stick to seek out his best option. Morin doesn't have an overwhelming shot, but it is utilitarian in that he generally gets it on net. He's solid in his own end and uses his long reach beneficially.

I don't know anything about these guys and hope they take BPA, but also hoping BPA is a forward.

Though they will soon have one of the best collections of young forwards in the NHL, there isn't anyone notable waiting in the wings with the possible exception of Joey Hishon.

If it has to be a D, Ian or Josh are excellent options.

Reviewing the options, there is a good chance it will be a D with so many in the 15-30 spots and there not being enough teams who will be going for Ds in those spots.

My tablet does not appreciate all those videos... browser has crashed like three times on this page.

Morin was on NHL Network and he said he boxes and when he fights he 'blacks out' and just goes full on beast mode. But honestly, he's really raw but I like his high end potential and think he's got something good in store for him in the future.

I'm the only one who voted for him and the only one who seems to bring him up but Chris Bigras. When all I read about someone is how spectacular his hockey IQ is and how calm he is under pressure, for a defenseman, that gets me intrigued. I really value intelligent defensemen and the Avs haven't had a lot recently.

If Morrissey is still available at 32 you just have to take him. He's a top-20 talent

Good year to have an early second round pick. I want a D man and there's plenty of first round caliber defenders who could fall to us there. Any listed on the poll or Morin would be a dream 32nd overall.

Ugh sends chills down my spine to remember we drafted Heard when Ludvig Bystrom, Brock McGinn, Dillon Fournier, Martin Frk, Colton Sissons, Dalton Thrower, and Boo Nieves were still out there.
