Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek

Where should Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek go and should they be seperated?

I think if Buffalo is going to get maximum value they should trade the pair separately.

Pegula wants both of them to stay, so take that for what it is.

Personally, Vanek should be locked up long term again. Goal-scoring wingers is what Buffalo needs desperately so we shouldn't be getting rid of one of the best in the game.

Who the hell knows with Miller, there isn't a market for goalies at all.

I hope Thomas stays in Buffalo.

Miller to a team that needs goaltending. Minnesota, Tampa, Isles come to mind. I don't think they'll play on the same team next year.

Those 2 will fetch Buffalo a pretty penny. I'd love Vanek in Anaheim, but there is no way that will happen.

If PHI doesn't land Bernier, maybe they make a pitch for Miller? Maybe Minnesota?

I agree he should, maybe New Jersey even after Brodeur retires. But Tampa has one of the best goaltending prospects in the world in Vasilevski and IMO they don't have the right assets to trade for Miller

Could be like the Iginla Boston situation? One team doesn't get the player they want (Bernier) so they get Miller as a "consolation prize" and he ends up being better for them??

Vanek will obviously fetch more than Miller, but I would rather see Miller leave than Vanek.

People don't watch Buffalo enough/at all to realize how good he actually is.

I suspect whoever strikes out on Bernier will go after Miller. He won't go to Toronto, but Philly and Minnesota might be candidates.

I'm gonna say Minnesota after the Wild brass said that they wouldn't feel good about having Backstrom as their starter. For what pieces, I don't know.

My issue with potentially keeping vanek on, say, a 4-6 year contract that pays $6 mil annually (and that's if he's really willing to take a hometown discount) is that he's already constantly playing through injuries...I don't want him to develop into the sabres' version of hemsky. If we could flip him for a first in between our current 2 picks, a decent vet, and a B level prospect, I'd do it.
cause then in turn, ideally, we go and draft, potentially, a combo of Lindholm, Horvat, and Ristolainen...basically, the odds of us getting 2 of those 3 goes up massively if we have another pick just outside the top 10.
I agree, he's really good. but I could see him having a lecavalier-like albatross contract if he re-ups long term and then loses a ton of his effectiveness in 2-3 years

Probably so after the Pominville trade

What would you say Hemsky's value is now? Cause we really need to trade him

How on earth is Ryan Miller the "consolation" prize for missing out on freaking Bernier?

Miller is about to start declining while Bernier can only go up from here. He hasn't had the chance to prove himself yet, he's been playing behind Quick his whole career.

I hope we can keep Vanek. He won't be easily replaced, and he has plenty of good years ahead of him for it to be worthwhile in the long haul.

We are one of the few teams that could take on both salaries

He isn't. But he's probably the next best option.

I doubt Tampa will go after Miller. That makes the Conacher deal a complete waste of time and assets, and a loss of a top 6 forward.

Already looking forward to our meetings next year. I went to a Sox game (as a fan), but I'd love to go to the Garden for a game as well.

I don't think he burns a team quite like he burns the B's.

So you'd be willing to give up a mid 1st rounder and a prospect on the brink of busting for one of the top 10 goal scorers since the lockout AND one of the most decorated goaltenders in the NHL? Good to know.

Good luck dumping 14 mil worth of salaries in this market.
