Yes. It is now back to the NBA first. Hopefully we get some kind of promise from them once Stern retires (February).

I like QC's odds a lot better than Seattle.
I agree with all of this. This was Seattle's best opportunity in the short term. We now need to get the NBA here first.

I disagree - I think both cities go in as expansion cousins within 2-3 years.

With the way the Coyotes situation has dragged on, part of me still thinks this hasn't fully concluded. Probably the only certainty is that they'll play in Glendale next season. Expansion for Seattle would be a good 'Plan B' for NHL aspirations.

Saw a ton of passion start to come out on my timelines on facebook and twitter it is refreshing to see. Now we go back to our adopted teams until Seattle finally gets a team and we can all be on the same side again lol.

The whole thought of changing sodo arena MOU to allow hockey first is a moot point. NHL has the leverage to wait till we get a NBA team before they award us one.

Yeah, would be much easier to get the NBA in first now, instead of trying to rework the MOU/ try and get a new arena.

We may never know if there were any discussions about changing the MOU.

The #NHL put together a Plan B and that was #Seattle. The plans were more advanced than people know, from what I’ve heard.

Seattle was gonna get the coyotes if the lease deal with glendale went south instead of approved.

What the NHL has to do now is strike while the iron is hot. You have some very wealthy people that are interested in bringing a team to Seattle, but if the NHL waits too long ( as in many years ) those potential buyers just might lose interest. If these buyers are willing to play in a small building and work towards building a new arena, It may not be worth the risk for the NHL to wait. Expand now while the interest is there.

Or maybe the NHL has some other fires we aren't aware of and will still need to use Seattle as a relocation destination.

Chris Daniels tweeted that Plan B was much further long than was previously thought.

Coyotes were the only one that were far enough to be a possible relocation candidate.

I can only hope you are right, but the way the National Humanitarian League works it's not looking that good.

They would not had set up the alignment for 7-7-8-8 if they had zero possibilities of expansion. There is no way NHL is going to ignore seattle especially once the arena is shovel ready.

The interesting thing is that the void is solely in the Western Conference. I wonder if any further expansion would be two non-Eastern Time Zone teams, say Seattle and another location? Good luck trying to convince Detroit or Columbus to move back to the Western Conference.

Why not be proactive and get er done now. Apparently it's not a big deal. Do you think the NHL will award Seattle an expansion team in 2015 if they still have done nothing towards building an arena?

If the NHL were to so that, I could see it being conditional on the MOU being amended and construction of the new arena. Their tune for Key Arena would likely be different for expansion vs. relocation.

I think we'll find out regarding expansion for NBA by the time NHL does expansion.

Change of NBA commissioner may make it easier for seattle to get a team.
