Not surprised. This has looked like a good destination since the Penguins series revealed both how good they are, and how much goaltending could be holding them back.

I've been advocating Strome as the asking price. Given Garth Snow as the GM and the emphasis he puts on the goaltending position, I think he'll be game to pay a price.

The source has stuff like this:
Was just passing on what was posted in the rumors section because I think a good deal could be made with the islanders, who have a lot of young up and coming talent, but may be looking to make a push sooner rather then later, and are also in need of a goaltender.

If the two teams are indeed in talks, that would mean the Isles weren't on Miller's list, yes? Or does he nix the deal after the two parties agree to the terms?

I think they'd get more from NYI than PHI for Miller, but I think Strome is a bit ambitious. I'd be happy with something around Brock Nelson or Nino.

El Nino (Swiss for The Nino) may be on the outs with the Isles much moreso than any of their other prospects. Perhaps he's the offer.

The Sabres traded away a core player for two former Isles 1st rounders before.

Miller for Strome & El Nino!

Too true.

It's speculative. Islanders could use a goalie. Trading for Miller flies in the face of their current operating model though.

Thoughts on trading Miller for Grabner, straight-up?

I would think about it as at 25yo he fits in with the rebuild. He'd boost the speed factor for the team but I see him as a 25/15/40 player and I'm kind of bleh on him.

No thanks.

It sounds like there are enough teams interested that they can get more than Grabner.

Grabner and Read are similar in that they are mid-line players who can score. Miller should have more value than JUST one of those guys. Futures would be nice, like a draft pick (I think a second is in order, could be more, depends on if the team acquiring blinks) and perhaps a prospect. But straight up, I don't think Regier would make that sort of deal.

Personally, I'd prefer a player with more bite to their game coming back.

Kind of like what they got last summer in the Roy for Ott deal.

I'm not much of a Grabner guy to be honest. He seems too inconsistent to me, the type of player who isn't giving you anything when he's not scoring. Perhaps my perception of him is off though.

It probably means they're not on the list but even if they are, Darcy could still make a deal and try to convince Ryan to agree.

The revenue increase is huge, it's going to be a big bump.

About to move into a very nice new building (albeit one hilariously not built with hockey in mind) in a bankable, trendier location. They'll probably have new ownership soon.

It's the kind of move Wang is usually soft on but I have a hard time believing he's thick enough to pass up on this opportunity. It's not really a half-cocked investment as the Islanders popularity could really explode in short order with their recent success. Penis. His name means penis...

If a player is mysteriously abducted by pirates this summer, misses the season, but returns the following year does his CAP still count this year?

Carver seems to be doing more "what I would do if I were the Isles GM" as opposed to having intel into whether they are interested in Miller or not...

I believe so. There is the LTIR for injuries which doesn't really eliminate the cap hit but sort of refunds it (technical difference based on how it works), but I think anyone stays on your cap if under contract unless they retire. Of course, now there's also a penalty for guys who retire in situations where the recapture penalty comes into play but that's another story.

However, just to be overly literal, if someone were actually kidnapped by pirates and a missing persons I'm pretty sure the league would grant a special dispensation to the team in question if they requested it or allow them to use the LTIR at least.

Okposo would interest me from the Islanders. Not as a centerpiece, but an additional piece. Never really panned out to full potential, but a change of scenery could do him well. Certainly fits into the bigger stronger model.
