Nino might be shot. Heard he's really fallen off the ranks

He is an intriguing change of scenery guy for me.

He could never pan out or he could blossom in a new environment.

I wouldn't be upset if he's a piece headed to Buffalo given the rebuild.

Hence why I put in the Stafford for Okposo part. They both could use a change of scenery.

Another interesting twist to the Sabres-Islanders talks would be if the Sabres were willing to take back DiPietro.

Plus, would the Isles be interested not only in Miller, but Vanek to play on a line with JT?

Miller & Vanek for DiPietro + ________ would be very intriguing. That starting place might get the Islanders to cough up a nearly untouchable guy like Strome, perhaps.....

Hey guys, just out of curiosity - is there any reason to believe the @SabresFront twitter handle has any credibility whatsoever?

Okposo looked strong down the stretch and into the playoffs. I'm going to guess that Strome and Okposo are the last guys Snow talks about moving.

How would Okposo not be the centerpiece in a deal for Miller?

He's signed for 3 years at 2.8 per
He's a 25 year old power forward

If Regier could get Okpo straight up for Miller it would be another jedi mind trick

He was drafted higher than he should have been, though everyone could see it coming after his WJC. His NHL debut was terrible. He put up solid numbers in the AHL this season. He's still a strong goal-scoring prospect but nothing's guaranteed with him and it'll likely be a slow process before he reaches his potential.

If you believe the Flyers offered Couturier, Coburn and a 1st for Miller, and then the Sabres said no because they wanted more, then sure they have credibility.

Okposo showed well in the Pens-Isles series. I can imagine Islander fans are less interested in dealing him now than they were prior to how he closed out the season.

Ahh, I thought that both he and Stafford were neighbors in the whipping boy contest. My bad

“I entered this weekend recognizing that they both are in the last year of their contracts, and I have a responsibility to see what that means both with those players and also within the marketplace,” Regier said. “Unless you’re a highly competitive team, it’s very difficult to have players on your roster whose contracts are going to expire if you either choose not to or don’t have the ability to re-up them.

“Just to lose those assets, you try to get a sense of what the marketplace is like, and that’s a process that’s ongoing. I expect it will continue to move through the draft into maybe free agency and maybe beyond that. We’re actively keeping our finger on the pulse of what’s going on in the league, and we’ll have to just make our decision.”
http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/...d.html?ref=bmh

That's about what I expect. What he says doesn't rule anything out draft weekened but implies that the 'situation' may last through it into the pre-FA visit period, and then possiby into FA. Not exactly the hard "last well into FA" outlook that some people read into his comments last night.

Those comments give me the underlying notion that both those players have given Regier the indication (or flat out told him) that they'll enter free agency.

Same. It certainly doesn't seem like he's speaking in terms of extending them.

Yeah, I think most trades will happen either tomorrow and then after free agency. Teams may also need to free up cap space before free agency that may move up the trading or necessitate additional compliance buyouts.

Waivers during training camp will be interesting too, if there are teams who are above the salary cap this summer.

I think we're all just grasping at air here. Yesterday people were saying Regier smiled so much during his interview that he must have a deal in the works. Oh, the life of a Buffalo sports fans. When we're told it's over, we still want to cling to hope.

I disagree, NYI has a good thing going and the last thing they will want to do is break up the important pieces of the forward corps that they deployed so effectively against Pitt. They need a goalie and better defense but they will try to add it without significantly detracting from their strength. Prior to this year they couldn't very credibly claim to have a strength for pete's sake. And what sort of message would trading Okposo after those playoffs send?

Using those parameters for NYI's state of mind, they would certainly like to add Miller, but the pieces that they would be willing to give up to do it would be draft picks, or Niederreiter.
