HFB Build a Dynasty: Active Players GM Draft (Sign Up/Rules)

DRAFT OFFICALLY STARTS TOMORROW (23RD) AT NOON EASTERN STANDARD TIME.

1. ACTIVE Players only. Not an all time draft.

2. Roster sizes:

NHL Club:
4 C-8 W-6 D-2G+3 Free spots to use as scratches

Minor League Club:
Same as above minus the 3 extra's.

3. Players that have met rookie requirements in the NHL as of now, must start the season on you big league roster. Anyone who has either not played in the required games (25 games), met the age restriction (26 years old) or has obviously not been called up in real life can be put on your minor league roster to start off. Players from this years draft class are eligible to be drafted (Jones, Mac, Drouin etc) but MUST be put onto your minor league roster as they don't exist in the Sim for this past season.

4. Salary Cap of 64.3M will be in effect for this Sim. You must draft your team using the 2013-2014 cap limit above for the NHL roster only. Your affiliate club will not count against the cap #. Players that are entering FA this summer, will use their 2012-13 cap hit for the first year.

5. Snake Style Draft order. 1st pick in round round picks last in round 2 etc....I use Random.org to determine the order. I put the teams in the sequence generator based on sign up order.

6. No injuries

7. No trading during the drafting process. Trading rules can be hashed out afterwards as i've often found that trades in draft usually end up bogging the process down to varying degrees.

8. Draft Clock will start off with 4 hours for rounds 1 through 5. 3 hours from 6-10. 2 hours from 11-end (43 total rounds) from 10AM-Midnight Eastern Standard Time. Picks CAN be made during the off hours. Nobody can be skipped once the clock stops..

9. Proxy lists help keep things going. For instance if you don't think you'll be around a certain day and are coming up to pick, leave a list with a few targets on it. Please send proxy lists to multiple people.

10. Please PM the next person in line after you select

11. Please remember to clean out your inboxes and sent boxes every few days.

Please feel free to ask any questions or suggest other options. I'm completely open to advice. I want people to enjoy the experience and have fun drafting.

Will there be trading after or before the draft? And is this a keeper league or do we do a redraft every year, or just trades?

I'm in, as the draft I'm in (I think the one DonutLee talked about) is dying.

Different one, talking about a simulation league off HF. (but the one you're talking about is dying a bit too xD)

I was thinking we could actually do a keeper league with a salary cap, to enhance the realism. There are plenty enough sources with good cap figures for guys that we could absolutely make it work.

The only issue is FA is about to hit and obviously some guys contracts will change, so we'd have to agree on a timetable for locking in salary.

Also, i figure we can use the actual cap in real life.

Would you guys be interested in that route?

Galchenyum's league is a Fantasy Pool. This league is a draft then simulation game. One based off real life NHL, one based off the simulator.

Yeah, sort of from what i can tell. This one will be based on a hockey simulator. Real rosters, cap figures, trades etc. A keeper league that we can sim season to season.

That actually sounds better. If you can get the speed of the draft up faster than Gally's, I'm in and I'll stick around.

I'll do everything in my power to keep things rolling as fast as possible. PM'ing each person after picks is huge as well as proxy lists when there is a time you can't be around a computer.

Also for those in the states, something i've been doing recently is having guys PM me their cell #'s, since everyone lives on their phones lol. I completely understand people not wanting to give their #'s out but it has made my past few drafts run EXTREMELY fast, because most folks get the notice right away and have internet access from their phones.

Just a thought.

Guys, we'll use the 2013-14 Cap limit of 64.3 million as the limit. Use Capgeek.com for player cap hit. Each year we will adjust the cap limit to mirror real life. So when drafting your team keep in mind you cannot exceed 64.3M total. The minor league players will not count against this number.

Any player that is set to become a FA this summer, we'll use their 2012-13 cap hit for the first year of the sim. Easiest way to handle those guys.

That'd be brilliant. Great idea.

Also, I'd recommend 3 hours between picks for the 1st round, 2 for the 2nd, 1 hour for rounds 3-10, and half an hour after that to help speed it up.

I set pretty conservative numbers with the idea we could definitely alter them based on the group consensus.

As far as i can tell, everyone is either in the US or Canada so worst case is 3 hour time differences.

How about 4 hours for rounds 1-5? 3 Hours for 6-10 and 2 hrs from 11 to finish?

That's a good compromise and actually close to what i've done in the past. I am actually finishing running another mock (different site) that knocked out 50+ rounds in roughly 3 weeks. Now granted i did have 4 or 5 cell #'s and there were only 10 teams, but that shows you the kind of speed we can achieve.

Too long IMO. Gally is going with 3 hours for every pick and it's ridiculously long. All depends on the activity levels though (which are often poor on this site) and how well it's run.

Yeah, it really does come down to activity.

I'm going to PM each person and make sure they plan on being active every day as long as possible. I really only want folks who routinely check in each day. Obviously situations come up in peoples lives that you can't predict, but i'm going to try and make sure everyone signed up is in this for the long haul.

We've got 9 for sure folks and 1 likely (cujomi who i pm'd) so far.

I'm thinking we can cap this at 12? Split up into 2 divisions?
