We do one of these pretty much every summer. Let's see how everyone's GM contract skills fair.

Put down the name of any RFA or UFA Blues player
or
A player you think/hope the Blues sign in FA.

Then put their cap hit, number of years, salaries each year, one or two-way deal, NTC, limited NTC, NMC, etc.

Well this was tougher than I thought, especially since I could see Armstrong going with bridge contracts again for Stewart and Berglund...I'm just not sure what he's going to do there. Or, he may trade one of Stewart/Berglund. I could even see Shattenkirk being traded in the right deal. Could be a crazy summer.

Pietrangelo
Cap Hit: $6.12 mil
# of Years: 8
Salary: $4.75 mil, $5.5 mil, $5.75 mil, $6.0 mil, $6.5 mil, $7.0 mil, $7.0 mil, $6.5 mil
Clause: NTC after 3rd season

Shattenkirk
Cap Hit: $4.55 mil
# of Years: 6
Salary: $3.75, $4.0, $4.30, $4.75, $5.5, $5.0
Clause: Limited NTC after 4th season

Stewart (Edit...I had this at 4 years, but I think Armstrong does another bridge contract. Throughout Stewart's career, he has never performed in the playoffs. Armstrong also needs to see if Stewart stays in shape. Additionally, I believe Stewart remains an RFA when this deal expires, and thus he can easily be traded if he doesn't live up to expectations. I don't see Armstrong giving Stewart a lot of money for multiple years just yet).

They need two more fowards. It would be better to not slough off the depth that has been a team strength the last few years. As much as we all loved what the CPR line brought, it would be better if there is competition in the bottom 6. Reaves isn't going to be starting every game.

So (and I don't think I'm the only one parsing it this way):
1) A bottom 6 winger, probably RW.

2) A center. Although a 1C is the wishlist, the reality is more likely someone who can challenge Berglund for the 2C and maybe end up playing 3C. A "playmaking center who is solid defensively". I think the more realistic play is to bring in a non-flashy guy who probably plays 3rd line.

There is also the scenario where the team packages one of the top 6 wingers in a deal to bring back a 1C/2C caliber center. But the training camp roster should not include Sobotka as the 3C starter. The Blues are in a lot better shape if Sobotka starts on the 4th line and is used to slide up in response to injuries. If they're depending on him to start 3C, then injuries will make the roster start to look pretty ugly pretty fast.
