Joe Colborne is a massive question mark to me. Mediocre scorer at the AHL level and zilch at the NHL.

He looks not quite as good as MA Pouliot did at the same age and it was at that point most Oiler fans were getting ready to ditch him.

We are too enamored with size around here.

Sens fan jumping to tell you guys that Smith is a really good return for you if true for Hemsky!! He can definitely play 3rd line C. Very reliable defensively, has a strong inaccurate shot, passes well and can provide a solid 30-35 pts a year including 15-17 goals on a good year when he's on his game.

Also question: are Hemsky's injury woes exaggerated? Or is it a mix of things and he's a bit unlucky too.

Zack smith would only be a 4th liner on an insanely deep team at c. He's going to be one of those perfect 3rd line centers Who can step into the top six and not miss a beat. He's skilled enough to play with offensive players. He's only a 24 year old pwf, I wouldn't be surprised if he became a regular 40 point player. Also he's one of those guys teams need in the playoffs. He's being under rated.

I would be on board for him. He's the right age for a d-man. Still in his prime, but experienced at the NHL level. Led the Flyers in time on ice per game and short handed time on ice per game (top 5 ranked PK). And capable of putting up 20 points in a season which is handy to have.

He is pretty pricey at 4.5 million for the next 3 years, but he would be a nice addition I think.

Smid-Petry
Coburn-J. Schultz
N. Schultz-Belov

Still could use another legit puck moving d-man for (ideally) the top pair, but more likely perhaps the bottom pair.

Maybe a Marek Zidlicky or even Joe Corvo on a 1 year deal.

Coburn had a pretty wretched season this year. Call me cynical but I think he'd crash and burn here.

A wretched season on a team that had a wretched year. He's been a valuable contributor on a team that prior to this year was consistently in the playoffs.

He's the kind of guy you might need to take a chance on if you are the Oilers. Buy low, on a team that is in cap trouble and count on him rounding back into form on a new team with a new coach. 28 year old top 4 d-men are not frequently available. You gotta take a chance sometimes I think.

If not Coburn you could also take a chance at Meszaros. Probably cheaper to acquire but he's only a 1 year player and than a UFA. Don't know his injury status though. He only played 11 games this year.

Trade Rumors and Proposals Thread XXIII: Hemsky To Ottawa?

First off there is nothing officially confirmed yet, but there seems to be a number of HFOil posters that are adamant that Hemsky to Ottawa is all but a formality.

Will be interesting to see what comes back if true. I don't get why Horcoff should be bought out or traded off for next to nothing. No one we have can win a faceoff and we're finally paying him a lot less money. If Hemsky gets dealt I hope we keep Horcoff for sure then.

I know that in his draft year Lowe and MacT were very interested in him, would make sense if they still have a soft spot for him. FTR I do not think he'll ever amount to anything in the NHL. Prove me wrong Joe.

I don't really want to go against the majority here...but I'm not so sure if I like Hemsky for Smith

Only on pace for 25 points this year, career high of 26 points, 3 points in 23 career playoff games...

I know that he's tough, a good dressing room guy, he plays hard and hits hard, but I'd rather have Hemsky, not to mention how is Zack Smith an ideal 3rd line C? On a cup team, the 3rd line C usually can still provide 30+ points, you could point out that Jarret Stoll didn't score more than 21 last year but the Kings play a different style than us AND Stoll was usually potting more than that anyways.

Point is, no matter how hard Zack Smith plays, you still have to be a contributor, and Horcoff AND Hemsky have outputted him, so I don't see how it makes the team imminently better. My two cents.

I also don't think this is the trade going down.

Getting Smith in a separate deal for our 4th line though, that would be something I'd be on board for.

He's been pretty healthy the last few years, they are a bit over exaggerated. He had bad luck injuring himslef in every conceivable way.

When he's on his game he is one of the most dynamic players in the league. And I really think a change of scenery will do him good. He's an incredibly talented guy who shies away from the limelight, but is still clutch when you need him to be.

If true, you're getting a good hockey player.

Also, Joe's dad, Paul Colborne and Daryl Katz run in the same circles.

Makes sense, I know he's well off to begin with. Maybe it has legs.

I've seen a fair amount of Joe, he certainly has the skill for a guy his size, but I really don't think he has the drive, the physical presence or the high hockey IQ (or any combination of those things) to make it. Hoping the Oilers don't give up anything substantial, but if he comes cheap who knows, maybe he finally puts it all together.

As we're unsure of the return from Ottawa, everyone seems to be thinking it's Smith?

I hope it's Wiercioch at least, I love him as a player. 6'5 defenceman who put up some great points last season.

With our luck, Boston and Chicago will go to a Game 7 OT which never ends.

Getting rid of Horcoff is about changing the room.

What he brings is very replaceable.

I'd like to echo this as well. Whether they happen or not, I still like reading about the rumors.

Konopka available. Guy looks like your perfect #4 center, yet can't find a home.

Konopka is a dunderhead. Similar to Belanger. Great at faceoffs. Not much else

If there is truly an Ottawa deal on the table, I'll have to tip my hat to Murray for staying quiet.
