Awesome. I totally agree.

Now...

Who are these "no name" goalies floating around that have the potential to become the next Lunqvist? Did the Panthers waive Jacob Markstrom?

Or...

Might Anders Nilsson become the next "name" goalie for us?

As per @RealKyper report, #Isles indeed interested in Luongo-DP swap. Only that deal though, so VAN may look elsewhere for asset in return.

I wonder if there's some loopholes/funny business they could pull to soften the punitive early retirement elements of Luongo's contract. Maybe the Isles don't care since it's just cap damage and the Canucks are banking on a way to wiggle out of it.

I doubt it.

Don't think they are going to get a ton out of Luongo, but they could probably get some sort of asset from someone.

We must all bow down to Snow if he can get that done. The report from Staple doesn't seem convincing at all, though. Clearly admits that Van is likely not interested. Just more stirring the pot.

Is it not because Luongo, not matter how much people would like to say he's lost it, can still play in the NHL. DP cannot.

We would have to throw in an asset probably equivelent to a 2nd round pick for Vancouver to even consider.

Guess that VAN not interested in swap of bad contracts for small buyout savings. #Isles would have interest in Luongo if VAN buys him out.

He answered some random people's questions also:

Quote:
why don't they consider adding an asset? Niño? Picks? Just curious
@StapeNewsday: Why do that if you feel you're doing VAN a favor by taking the contract off their hands?

I know your no Vancouver reporter but do you think Lu is going to be bought out? Or more of trade bait.
@StapeNewsday No idea. Gillis was quite clear he's going to move Luongo, not sure what happens if there are no trades to make.

So what are more realistic goalie options for the #isles?
@StapeNewsday Emery/Khudobin in FA, perhaps a trade after the frenzy has died down.

No.

If Vancouver trades Luongo, they are still on the hook for a recapture penalty when he retires. The $3M in savings isn't enough incentive to compensate.

I read the new cba , allows teams to talk to ufas days before the start of the signing period.
Anyone know when Snow can speak to Emery and Khudobin's reps?

^^^

It's 2 or 3 days in advance of the beginning of free agency. I have a feeling July 5th will have some fireworks as well. A lot of free agents with deals lined up all announcing at once!

Gonna be fun.

Unrestricted free agents may meet and interview with potential new teams from the day after the NHL Entry Draft (but not later than June 25) until June 30.

A couple of days away and you're totally out of the loop Crew. Normally people would be asking YOU for info like that.

Hope you had a nice little Vaycay.

Interesting. I just went to Kypreos' twitter feed and I can't find that tweet. Can someone besides Staple confirm?

Maybe Kypreos deleted the tweet because it was a baloney rumor? Maybe I missed the tweet? Someone help me out here...

That becomes irrelevant though if no one is willing to take on his contract in a trade. Their only choice would be to buy him out, so why not swap and save the 3 mil.

Mirtle tweeted Nonis comment, that there are a ton of high profile players being shopped.

Now would be a great time for Wang to open his checkbook, exchange some young talent for a first liner or top 3 defenseman.

Apparantly (and unsurprisingly) nobody is in on him and Vancouver is contemplating a buyout.

No one wants that deal and I don't think anyone wants to help gillis either. Nor should they.

If TB is tossing out Vinny, PHI with Bryz, he thinks someone is going to take that contract AND add assets. Luongo will be in demand after he gets brought out bc the albatross is on Gillis and he has no leverage.

I think Snow being "in" on Luongo is him being coy with Nabby by also courting Luongo as a destination once he gets out as a UFA.

Ok. How about a link to any form of corroboration? Kypreos has been accused of saying a few things speculatively without any meat behind them.

I've been adamant that it would not happen because Luongo has value, just like Crew said, and DP has none.

I will concede this much though: the window for the compliance buyout is tonight at midnight (I think). Maybe Gillis waits until the 11th hour to call a spade a spade and make the trade with Snow. I would give that a 5% chance of occurring.

I still give a 95% chance that Vancouver would prefer to eat the $3 million and save face rather than winding up on every form of media tomorrow morning calling them idiots for trading Lou for Dipi.

They have till July 4th.

During the ordinary course buyout periods in June 2013 and June 2014, teams will be permitted two compliance buyouts. Compliance buyouts follow the same formula as ordinary-course buyouts — either 1/3 or 2/3 of actual salary depending on age — but do not count against the cap. In 2013, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends and concludes on July 4 at 5 p.m.
