Absolutely. Of course, I don't know if I believe him, but I certainly hope he's right.

OK, so like I tried to say in the other thread, I believe I found a "buy out loophole." Teams that buy out a player cannot re-sign that player, right?

So what is stopping GMs from reaching an agreement with each other such as "Trade me Player A, I will buy him out, and then you can re-sign him?"

For example:

PIT trades Fleury to MIN for Gilbert.
PIT then uses a buy out on Gilbert and MIN uses one on Fleury.
PIT can then re-sign Fleury to a cheaper contract as can MIN with Gilbert.

Is this allowed?

2 years for Adams? Nope. That player can be found. I would like to see Sill get a chance to play w/ the big club. I would like his game.

wooohooo!!!! Craig Adams grinding til he's 50 baby.

Anyways, Letang 6.5x8 would be great. Hope the Fleury to Minny rumors have some ground beneath them. Not sure what we would get back though, Clutterbuck isn't enough.

I believe there was a report not long ago that Toronto was interested in acquiring Lecavalier from Tampa Bay, then buy him out so that he could re-sign with TB for a different deal. TB would have to make it worth Toronto's while but Toronto has the means to buy V4 out, but not T-Bay.

So technically I think it is do-able. But why would we choose to re-sign Fleury when we could sign any backup for Vokoun?

Adams might as well ask for a career contract. He'd probably get it.

And then move on to a scouting job for the team, of course.

#TribHKY told #pens not looking to move Fleury unless he asks out. Also, they do not like goalie market this summer, so they need starter.

I thought it was pretty obvious Shero didn't like the goalie market when he said he didn't know how he was going to replace 40 wins. Although, I do wonder if a bought out Luongo would interest him.

Yeah that's a pretty ridiculous statement to make. You're not going to get a much better goalie market than Mike Smith, Niklas Backstrom, Ray Emery, Evgeni Nabokov, Thomas Greiss, Anton Khudobin, Tim Thomas, Jose Theodore et al! AND the possibility of Roberto Luongo. And Bernier who just was dealt.

They can just say they love Fleury, they don't have to sound ridiculous about it.

add Halák. it's almost as if their mentality is something along the lines of, the only upgrade on MAF is someone who is better than MAF at his best. it's as if 'inconsistency' isn't a part of their lexicon and is something they're willing to overlook.

Smith would likely be a disaster in our system. I don't think Shero has an interest in us having the one of oldest goaltending tandems in the league so that eliminates Backstrom, Nabokov, and Theodore. Emery is a huge question mark, and Greiss is an even bigger one. Khudobin has 21 games of NHL experience. Tim Thomas is old, nuts, and going to retire.

The only good option is a bought out Luongo, and we don't even know if he'll actually be bought out.

It's too bad we didn't have a crappy long term contract we could deal the Nucks for Lou.

Fleury & Glass for Lou & Kassian

Nucks can buy out Fleury or deal him to Minny

Not that the Penguins have much to give (aside from Letang, of course) but isn't Miller supposedly on the block, too? Or is that just an unsubstantiated rumor?

Who in there is a long term solution that isn't going to expect to get paid even more than Fleury? I'm not saying it wouldn't make sense to move Fleury and suck it up with one of those guys. But I don't think its a very exciting crop of guys either.

Yes, the status quo (Fleury/Vokoun) is also not a good option, so in this case beggars can't be choosers.

I don't see anything wrong with trying one of these other goalie options for a year.
