good to know.
There's something awkward about having to scroll down on capgeek to find the Flyers.

Homer needs to hurry up and blow it all on a #8 dman so our Capgeeking can be more convenient.

I don't see a real problem with it. It's not a +35 contract and the caphit isn't too bad. I'm not writting him off yet. I've down that road a couple of times now and came out looking dumb. I still think he has some productive years left in him.

He fits in the top 6 very well and does a job. I'm okay with it.

He also has enough grit to play a bottom 6 role at the end of the contract, worst case.

Hartnell is still a good player. I think we just need to take this past year and just forget about it with all the injuries. Hartnell is still going to give you 25/25 while bringing the other stuff he brings to the club for a little while yet so I am not ready to write him off

Yeah I've got no beef with hartnell. He was out a good chunk of the year last year and IIRC he was playing injured for the rest. I don't know if he'll regularly score 30 goals, but I think he's a lock for 20-30.

I love Hartnell. He has skill, grit and character. He's a warrior.

I may well be alone in this, but I was watching the finals thinking, "Cripes, the Flyers forwards as is (with Read at 2LW and Gagne on 3LW), could play even with both these teams given a decent goaltending and a healthy D."

I really don't see any reason why we can't compete for the East next year.
ESPECIALLY if we somehow get a solid vet goalie to complement Mason - and Mason plays like he did in his audition.

If we could sign Luongo on a post-buyout deal, acquire Halak, Elliott, Hiller or Miller, or sign Smith or Emery, the sky's the limit.

Too much of the old Rainbows and Sunshine (yeah, I know he signed in Vancouver!)???

If taking dumb penalties and turtling during fights are skills then yes, he brings a lot.

I see Hartnell being the kind of player who is effective well into his 30's, much like Knuble.

Zero problem with the contract.

Then again, with Bryz and Briere gone, somebody had to find a contract to complain about. It wouldn't be the Flyers' board if someone wasn't complaining about a contract, and to complain about Streit is so last week.

I have a harder time looking at Simmonds' contract. I know there are people here that think he brings a lot to the team but personally I've never been high on him. Too streaky and needs to learn how to play like a top 6 forward, not a 3rd or 4th line enforcer who can score sometimes.

What?

Simmonds is one of the better contracts on the team. He's a beast in front of the net on the powerplay, a dirty goal scorer, and a very good fighter. The Flyers have no one else that can do what he does.

He's poor defensively, but with managed minutes, he's a steal at 3.9M. Absolute steal.

All I'm saying is I would love a player like him who is going to be a consistent top 6 guy to focus more on being effective 5 on 5. He turns the puck over way too often which is not a good combo with being poor defensively I don't argue that at 3.9M it's not good value but I have a feeling he is going to wear out his welcome well before the end of that contract.

I guess it all depends what you expect of him. He'll tie up a smaller percentage of the cap every year of his deal from here on out, so he will become an even better value over time so long as his skills don't erode. His skill set is very unlikely to suffer too much, however.

If anything, he's more likely to put on at least a little weight as he ages, even though I agree with most that his frame is lanky and as such, he's never likely to exceed 210-215 lbs or so.

I'm arguing with the Facebook crew.

Someone tried to explain to me why Coburn + Laughton + 3rd rounder should be used to pry the 7th away from Edmonton just so we can draft Monahan...

He failed.

Anyway, I forgot how exhilarating yelling at people online could be. I haven't done it since I stopped posting on the trade boards.

Lol! Battling across media! I love the internet.

Anyway, while there are some knowledgeable people on the facebook group, I get really annoyed reading it.
